‘Today With Jenna & Sheinelle’ Sets September Return With a Brand-New Season

After weeks of prerecorded programming, Today With Jenna & Sheinelle is officially preparing to return with new episodes — and NBC is promising more than simply a return to Studio 1A.

On Friday, September 4, the show confirmed on Instagram that the fourth hour of Today will begin a brand-new season on Tuesday, September 8, bringing Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones back together for fresh episodes following Labor Day weekend.

The announcement came after viewers had gone several weeks without seeing the pair in their usual live format.

Jenna and Sheinelle are coming back

Since August 24, the fourth hour of Today has relied on prerecorded programming. Those broadcasts have included newly recorded opening conversations between Bush Hager and Jones, followed by previously aired interviews and segments featuring celebrities and other guests.

That run will come to an end September 8.

The show’s official Instagram account shared a video montage highlighting Bush Hager and Jones during their first months as co-hosts. The caption announced, “We’re shining. Our new season starts Tues., Sept. 8. #JennaandSheinelle.”

Fans quickly welcomed the news.

“Can’t WAIT!!!” one viewer wrote, while another called the upcoming season “beautiful.” Others praised the chemistry between the two hosts, with one fan describing them as a great pair and another declaring them the “BEST HOST COUPLE ON TELEVISION.”

One viewer did raise a different wish, saying they hoped Jones could appear on both the third and fourth hours of Today.

How Jenna and Sheinelle became a team

Bush Hager has been part of the fourth hour of Today since 2019, when she succeeded Kathie Lee Gifford. She later co-hosted the hour alongside Hoda Kotb for several years.

Kotb departed Today in January 2025 after nearly two decades with the morning program. Following her exit, Bush Hager continued hosting the fourth hour under the temporary title Today With Jenna & Friends, which featured a rotating group of guest hosts.

Jones eventually emerged as the permanent choice to join Bush Hager.

In December 2025, NBC announced that Jones would become Bush Hager’s new full-time co-host. She officially stepped into the role in January 2026.

For Jones, the transition represented an important new chapter following an especially difficult period in her personal life.

Sheinelle Jones’ emotional return to the fourth hour

Jones had taken several months away from Today in 2025 following her husband Uche Ojeh’s private battle with brain cancer. Ojeh died at age 45 in May 2025.

Jones returned to Today that September and later appeared alongside Bush Hager as a guest host on Jenna & Friends.

When she was announced as Bush Hager’s permanent co-host, Jones reflected on how much the opportunity meant to her.

“When I came back from leave, I talked about fighting for my joy. This is what it looks like,” Jones said at the time.

She also connected the moment to her late husband, saying it felt as though he was encouraging her from above to embrace the opportunity.

Jones recalled putting on one of Ojeh’s shirts that morning, saying a prayer and preparing to begin this new chapter alongside Bush Hager.

Hoda Kotb had advice for her successor

Jones has also spoken about the support she received from Kotb, who had previously shared the fourth hour with Bush Hager.

According to Jones, Kotb encouraged her to view the move as a significant turning point in her career and reassured her that working with Bush Hager would be a positive experience.

“Working with Jenna, it’s gonna be better than you can ever imagine. You’re gonna love it,” Jones recalled Kotb telling her.

Kotb and Gifford later made a surprise appearance during the first episode of Jenna & Sheinelle in January.

Kotb celebrated the new pairing on air, telling the hosts how great they looked together and how special the day already felt.

A new season begins September 8

With the prerecorded summer episodes coming to an end, Bush Hager and Jones are now set to return to the fourth hour with a fresh season and their increasingly familiar partnership at the center of the show.

For longtime Today viewers, the September 8 return marks another step in the evolution of the fourth hour — and a chance to see how the Jenna and Sheinelle era continues to take shape.
