Those comments are individual observations rather than established facts about the couple. They nevertheless contributed to the public fascination surrounding Harry and Meghan’s life in Montecito.

Wendy Foster, a local business owner, reportedly offered a more positive description of Meghan, calling her “very polite”. At the same time, Foster suggested that the Sussexes’ royal titles did not carry the same influence in the United States that they might in Britain.

That distinction becomes particularly relevant now that the family has returned to the UK.

Why the Cotswolds could be a natural fit

The Cotswolds is a very different environment from Montecito, but the two locations share an important feature: both are associated with considerable wealth, privacy and high-profile residents.

The English region has long attracted affluent residents and celebrities looking for a quieter life away from central London.

For Harry and Meghan, though, the location offers something Montecito could never provide on the same scale: proximity to Harry’s family and to the country where his royal identity remains deeply significant.

In California, Harry and Meghan could maintain a considerable distance from the British establishment. In the Cotswolds, their royal connections are inevitably closer to home.

A new setting for Archie and Lilibet

Living closer to Harry’s relatives could give Archie and Lilibet greater opportunities to maintain relationships with members of their father’s family. The children’s connection to Britain has remained a recurring subject of interest since the Sussexes moved to the United States.

The family’s relocation was confirmed in August 2026, with Harry and Meghan returning to the UK with their children. Recent reporting has also indicated that the couple intends to continue their charitable and professional activities across the Atlantic rather than simply abandoning their American life.

That makes the move less about closing one chapter completely and more about establishing a permanent foothold in both countries.

Their American chapter was closely tied to the royal story

Harry and Meghan have spent years trying to build independent careers outside the working monarchy.

Yet some of their biggest projects have remained inseparable from their experiences as members of the Royal Family.
