Juveria Zaheer’s Jeopardy! Masters Run Takes A Painful Turn — And Fans Can’t Stop Talking About One Crucial Decision She had already found both Daily Doubles and answered them correctly, putting herself in position to make a dramatic comeback. But when Final Jeopardy! arrived, one decision became the difference between advancing and going home. Juveria got the clue right — yet her $301 wager left her just short of the semifinals. Now, her surprisingly candid reflection on the risky strategy has fans looking back at the moment and wondering: what if she had wagered differently?

‘Jeopardy! Masters’: Juveria Zaheer Opens Up After Heartbreaking Exit

Juveria Zaheer of 'Jeopardy! Masters'

Juveria Zaheer’s run on Jeopardy! Masters ended with a frustrating twist: she answered Final Jeopardy correctly, but the points she earned were not enough to keep her alive in the tournament.

The psychiatrist from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, entered the September 2 quarterfinal against Paolo Pasco and Andrew He sitting fifth in the overall standings with three match points. Victoria Groce led with 12, followed by Yogesh Raut with 11, Paolo Pasco with seven, Long Nguyen with five, and Andrew He with two.

Zaheer needed a strong performance to stay in contention, and she immediately showed why she belonged among the tournament’s elite.

Pasco opened the game strongly, finding the Daily Double on clue 15 and wagering 2,500 points. He correctly identified “lutherie” in the category “Jaws,” moving into first place with 6,300.

By the end of the opening round, Pasco had 7,100 points, He had 6,600, and Zaheer trailed with 3,600.

Then came an explosive start to Double Jeopardy.

Zaheer found the first Daily Double on the very first clue and went all in with her 3,600 points. The clue asked about the imperial palace where potential heirs to the Ottoman throne were sometimes imprisoned for decades.

She correctly answered Topkapi Palace, immediately jumping into the lead with 7,200 points.

And she wasn’t finished.

One clue later, Zaheer found another Daily Double. This time, she wagered 2,200 points and correctly answered “supercilious,” pushing her score to 9,400.

Despite that burst of momentum, the game soon swung away from her. Zaheer eventually settled into third place again, finishing the round with 12,200 points. He had 13,800, while Pasco led with 15,100.

A Correct Final Answer — But Not Enough

The Final Jeopardy category was “World Transportation.”

The clue asked contestants to identify the city where China Southern Airlines is headquartered.

Zaheer gave the correct response: Guangzhou.

She wagered just 301 points, finishing with 12,501.

He also answered correctly and finished with 15,300 after wagering 5,800. Pasco missed the clue and dropped to 13,801.

The result meant Zaheer had the correct Final Jeopardy response but still could not climb out of the bottom spot in the tournament standings. She was eliminated and took home $50,000.

The official Jeopardy! results confirm Zaheer finished the quarterfinal with 12,501 points, behind He and Pasco.

“Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Lose”

After her elimination, Zaheer reflected on the experience in a Reddit post, describing herself as incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to compete at that level.

She admitted that her wagering decisions had gone in opposite directions from what she needed, saying she had “went big when I should have gone small, and small when I should have gone big.”

But Zaheer made it clear that she had no regrets about the journey.

For her, Jeopardy! was far more than another competition. She recalled watching the show with her father when she was just four years old and learning world capitals from him. She also connected her experience to the late Alex Trebek, whose presence had been part of her childhood.

Zaheer acknowledged that she would love to keep playing, but preparing for another year at the highest level would be difficult alongside the demands of her career and the time she wants to devote to her family.

She said goodbye “for now,” while leaving open the possibility that she could return someday.

Her final message was even more personal: sometimes contestants win, sometimes they lose, and sometimes they find themselves sitting offstage because they do not have enough money to participate in Final Jeopardy.

What mattered most to Zaheer was that viewers could see something of themselves in her journey.

Her advice was simple: it is never too late, failure is okay, and people should be brave enough to take the test because they never know where it might lead.

Who Advanced to the Semifinals?

Zaheer’s elimination helped finalize the four-player semifinal field. Victoria Groce, Yogesh Raut, Paolo Pasco and Andrew He advanced, while Zaheer and Long Nguyen were eliminated from the competition.

The semifinals began September 3, with the remaining players competing for a place in the September 8 finale and the $500,000 grand prize.

For Zaheer, however, this may not be the end of the Jeopardy! story. As she suggested herself, the cards could always find their way back onto her phone someday.
