Mohamed Salah Returns to the UK After Wife Magi Welcomes Baby Boy

Mohamed Salah has returned to the UK after his wife, Magi, gave birth to their first son, marking a new chapter for the Liverpool icon and his family.

Salah left Merseyside during the summer after his contract with Liverpool was terminated by mutual agreement. However, despite his departure, the north west is where his wife is reportedly understood to have given birth.

The arrival of their son was revealed by Salah’s sister, Rabab, on social media. The couple have chosen the name Leil for their new baby, a name that translates to “night” in Arabic.

Salah’s family grows

The news comes as Salah, now 34, begins life in Turkey after joining Trabzonspor.

The club’s president, Ertugrul Dogan, recently confirmed that Salah and former Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana had both welcomed new additions to their families.

Speaking to 61saat, Dogan said: “After the (Amed SK) match, I travelled abroad with Salah and Andre Onana. Both of them had new children, Onana had twins and Salah a baby boy. I congratulate their families and their wives.”

Salah and Magi, who were childhood sweethearts, both grew up in their hometown of Nagrig, Egypt. Magi later trained as a biotechnician, with the couple marrying in 2013.

The arrival of their son means Salah and Magi are now parents to three children. Their eldest daughter, Makka, was born in 2014, while their second daughter, Kayan, arrived in 2020.

Liverpool still feels like home

Salah and his family spent almost a decade living in Liverpool, and the city remained deeply important to them during his final years at the club.

The Egyptian had originally been expected to stay for another year after signing a two-year contract in 2025, but that agreement was ended 12 months earlier than planned.

Despite leaving Liverpool, Salah has previously spoken warmly about his family’s connection to the city and how settled they had become there.

“They feel at home [here]. They were very happy, [wife] Magi and the kids, they were very happy that we’re staying another two years. It feels like home so everyone was happy,” he previously said.

A difficult start in Turkey

Salah’s move to Trabzonspor has already brought significant changes, with head coach Fatih Tekke departing following the club’s heavy Europa League play-off defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Trabzonspor were beaten 5-0 on aggregate, but Salah insisted the setback would not alter his commitment to the Turkish club or its ambitions.

In a statement shared on social media, he wrote: “Nothing in my career ever came easy. Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies.

“Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that. I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we can and will deliver. ‘I came here to win’ is not just a slogan to me.”

As Salah settles into a new chapter of his career in Turkey, his return to the UK has also brought a more personal moment for the former Liverpool star, following the birth of his first son with Magi.
