Riley Green Praises Kayleigh Mathews’ Stunning Patsy Cline Cover on The Voice — But Her Live Shows Dream Faces an Unexpected Twist

Kayleigh Mathews brought classic country music back into the spotlight during The Voice Season 30 with a memorable performance of Patsy Cline’s Walking After Midnight.
The Team Riley contestant impressed the coaches with her powerful vocals and distinctive country sound, earning enthusiastic praise from both Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green.
However, her performance came during the competition’s demanding Cut Week, when even strong singers faced elimination.
Kayleigh Mathews Delivers a Classic Country Performance

Taking on Patsy Cline’s 1957 hit was an ambitious choice, but Mathews embraced the song’s traditional country style.
Dressed in a sparkling silver jumpsuit, she performed against a backdrop of moonlight and stars, creating a setting that complemented the nostalgic arrangement.
Her warm vocals and effortless delivery captured the spirit of the original recording while showcasing her own impressive range.
Mathews also demonstrated the distinctive vocal techniques that have helped her stand out throughout the competition.
Clarkson was particularly impressed by the subtle yodeling quality in her voice.
“You have this beautiful Yodel thing that goes on and your resonance is so beautiful,” Clarkson told her.
She added that Mathews possessed an exceptional natural gift.
Riley Green Gives Her the Ultimate Country Compliment

Green was equally enthusiastic about his contestant’s performance.
The country singer praised Mathews for remaining faithful to the traditional sound of the song while introducing her own personality.
He also highlighted the bluesy quality she brings to certain notes, describing her voice as unique.
For Green, the performance represented exactly the kind of country music he appreciates.
He explained that calling her performance truly country was the highest compliment he could offer one of his artists.
“I just loved everything about it. You’re great,” he told Mathews.
Despite the positive feedback, Green still faced the difficult task of narrowing down his team.
Cut Week Forces a Difficult Elimination

Season 30 introduced Cut Week as a replacement for the traditional Knockouts and Playoffs.
Each coach began with seven contestants and selected two to advance automatically to the Live Shows.
The remaining five artists then competed for a single final position.
Green initially saved Cade Mower and sister duo Ferryn & Brinkley, leaving Mathews among the contestants fighting for the last available spot.
Although her Patsy Cline performance received strong praise, Green ultimately chose Joe Henley, whose rendition of Keith Whitley’s Don’t Close Your Eyes earned a standing ovation from all four coaches.
The decision meant Mathews did not secure a place among Team Riley’s three advancing acts.
Kayleigh Mathews Still Has a Chance to Return
Her elimination does not necessarily mean the end of her journey on The Voice.
The competition introduced a public voting opportunity allowing one of the 16 eliminated Cut Week contestants to return.
The singer receiving the most votes will advance to the Live Shows, completing the Top 13.
The result is scheduled to be revealed when The Voice returns on Monday, November 9, at 9/8c on NBC and Peacock.
For Mathews, the opportunity offers one final route back into the competition after a performance that earned considerable admiration from the coaches.
Her future remains uncertain, but her rendition of Walking After Midnight demonstrated why Riley Green and Kelly Clarkson regard her as a distinctive country talent.
