Alexander Skarsgård and Olivia Colman make an odd couple in their new movie — because one of them is made entirely of wicker.

In the newly released trailer for Wicker (in select theaters Oct. 23 and wide Oct. 30), Colman, 52, plays a village fisherwoman who commissions a husband from the local basket weaver (played by Peter Dinklage). The result is a magical man, played by Skarsgård, 49, made of woven together twigs.

After Dinklage’s mysterious character instructs Colman to “be at the chapel in a month,” she meets the Wicker Husband, who steadfastly attends to her every need. That includes fixing the bed the newly married couple repeatedly breaks. (The risqué trailer hints at why that might be.)
Wicker, written and directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, is adapted from Ursula Wills-Jones’ short story The Wicker Husband. The wild fantasy romance costars Elizabeth Debicki as the bitter Tailor’s Wife, plus Richard E. Grant, Marli Siu and Nabhaan Rizwan. It premiered to strong reviews at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January.

Skarsgård donned a practical wicker suit (complete with wicker nipples) and facial prosthetics to play perhaps his most unusual screen character to date. But it was portraying the Wicker Husband’s demeanor that presented a challenge. “I was quite intimidated when I read [the script] because I tend to be drawn toward more conflicted characters with more internal turmoil and darkness,” the Swedish actor noted at the movie’s Sundance premiere.

“To play this good-hearted, good-natured, sweet, morally righteous character was scary to me,” he jokingly admitted. “I’m not really comfortable doing that. I don’t have anything to tap into when it comes to that. So it was a stretch as an actor.”
