Today Tightens Security After Nancy Guthrie Abduction and Studio Intruder Incident
NBC has strengthened security measures at Today following two unsettling incidents involving the show — the abduction of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, and a separate studio intrusion involving anchors Craig Melvin and Al Roker.
Several new security measures have reportedly been introduced at 30 Rockefeller Center, with staff members welcoming the tighter restrictions rather than viewing them as an inconvenience.
“It’s a relief,” an insider told Page Six. “It was much-needed and took longer than people would have liked, but it does feel a lot better now.”
A second source said employees have been “more than willing to oblige with the new protocols,” adding that the changes have not been viewed as a burden.

The latest measures come after a series of concerning events surrounding the NBC morning show.
In July, a man allegedly entered the Today studio and approached Craig Melvin while looking for Al Roker and using racial slurs.
NBC later confirmed the incident in a statement shared by Melvin on Instagram.
“There was a security incident this morning at the Today show studio,” the network said, explaining that an individual had entered an unauthorized area in a vestibule near Studio 1A and approached Melvin.
Melvin alerted security, after which the individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement. NBC said there was no altercation and that no one was injured.
Following the incident, Today introduced stricter rules for studio access. According to a memo sent to public relations firms, the new protocols were put in place immediately in response to the events.
Under the changes, guests appearing on Today were initially limited to bringing no more than two people with them into the studio. Additional support personnel were required to remain in the green room.
The latest security changes reportedly build on those earlier measures.
Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance adds to concerns

The heightened security also comes as Savannah Guthrie continues to face the devastating disappearance of her mother.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1 and remains missing more than seven months later.
No suspects have been named in connection with her disappearance.
The case has remained a deeply personal matter for Savannah, who has continued working at Today while her mother remains missing.
Reports of increased security at the show first emerged after Nancy’s abduction. The more recent measures at 30 Rockefeller Center now follow the separate studio intrusion involving Melvin and Roker.
For Today staff, the additional restrictions appear to have been met with support as NBC works to make the studio environment more secure.
