Inside Rachel Scott’s Spanish getaway with husband Elliott Smith before her GMA weekend anchor debut
Rachel Scott is stepping into a new role at Good Morning America after spending the final days of summer in Spain with her husband, Elliott Smith.
The 33-year-old ABC News journalist traveled to Costa Brava in August, enjoying a quiet getaway with Smith shortly before beginning her new weekend anchor duties on the morning show.

A final taste of summer in Costa Brava
Scott shared glimpses of the trip on Instagram in late August, captioning the collection of photos, “Chasing the final days of summer in Costa Brava.”
The getaway included several classic Spanish vacation moments. Scott and Smith enjoyed wine at sunset, shared paella and went kayaking together. She also posted photos of herself exploring the area, including one showing her climbing a set of steps in Costa Brava and another capturing her in a white dress.
The relaxed trip drew warm reactions from Scott’s ABC News colleagues.
GMA correspondent Rebecca Jarvis commented, “Love this so much for you,” while Deborah Roberts responded with a heart-eyes emoji.
Smith also left a message in the comments, calling it “A memorable weekend getaway.”

From Washington correspondent to GMA weekend anchor
The Spanish vacation came just before a significant professional change for Scott.
Scott had been working as a political correspondent for ABC News in Washington, D.C., before being promoted to a main anchor role for Good Morning America on Saturdays.
Beginning September 12, she will co-host the Saturday edition alongside Whit Johnson as part of a new weekend lineup.

On Sundays, Gio Benitez will team up with Rhiannon Ally, while meteorologist Leslie Lopez will handle weather coverage on both days.
The changes follow the departure of longtime weekend host Janai Norman, who was dropped by GMA in April.
After the news broke, Norman spoke about how difficult the sudden ending had been for her, saying she had hoped she would have more time on the show.
“I’d hoped that we’d have more time. It’s been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job,” Norman said.
She also reflected on the connection she had built with her colleagues and viewers, adding that it was heartbreaking that she would not have the opportunity to say goodbye.

A year of marriage and luxury travel

For Scott and Smith, the Costa Brava trip was another memorable getaway since their wedding.
The couple married in Santa Barbara in September 2025 and have already enjoyed several major trips together.
For their honeymoon last year, they traveled to Maasai Mara in Kenya for a safari.
Now, with Scott preparing to take on a new role in front of the GMA weekend audience, their Spanish escape offered a final chance to slow down and enjoy the summer before her next chapter at ABC News began.
