Megyn Kelly Slams George Stephanopoulos Over Lindsay Clancy Interview
Megyn Kelly is questioning why George Stephanopoulos did not challenge Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney after he made an unexpected request during a Good Morning America interview.
On Tuesday, September 8, former Fox News host Kelly criticized attorney Kevin Reddington after he appeared on GMA and directly appealed to President Donald Trump to consider pardoning his client.
The unusual request came while Stephanopoulos was asking Reddington about what would happen next for Clancy following the conclusion of her trial.
Kelly questions the missing follow-up
During the interview, Reddington turned his attention to Trump and said he hoped the president would consider Clancy’s situation and “consider a pardon.”
For Kelly, that immediately raised a basic legal question — one she believed Stephanopoulos should have asked on air.
“It would have been nice if George Stephanopoulos asked him one follow-up question,” Kelly said on The Megyn Kelly Show, suggesting he should have asked why Reddington was seeking a presidential pardon when Clancy is facing a state crime, for which the president cannot pardon her.
Kelly went on to harshly criticize both Reddington and Stephanopoulos over the exchange.
She later returned to the same point, arguing that Stephanopoulos has been an anchor for a long time and should have stopped to ask: “A pardon? What do you mean, a pardon?”
Kelly says there was plenty of time to ask
Kelly acknowledged that the format of network morning news can limit how deeply anchors can pursue a story, with interviews often compressed into just a few minutes.
But she said that explanation did not apply in this case.
According to Kelly, Reddington was given around seven minutes on GMA, which she considered more than enough time for Stephanopoulos to clarify the request.
She suggested that instead of allowing the unusual statement to pass without explanation, Stephanopoulos should have pressed Reddington on exactly what he meant.
“Instead, you just leave everyone confused,” Kelly said.
Her own team, she added, had contacted Reddington’s office to ask for an explanation and was still waiting for a response.
Clancy’s trial ends in mistrial
The controversy surrounding the interview comes just days after Clancy’s triple-murder trial ended in a mistrial on Friday, September 4.
The jury remained deadlocked after approximately 38 hours of deliberations over seven days, meaning it could not reach a verdict.
Clancy was accused of strangling her three young children to death in January 2023. Her defense argued that she was legally insane at the time because of postpartum psychosis.
With the jury unable to reach a verdict, attention has now turned to what happens next in the case — and Reddington’s unexpected appeal for a presidential pardon has added another layer to the ongoing legal controversy.
