Prince William Makes Surprise Trip to Barcelona With Prince George for Special Father-Son Champions League Outing
Prince William and Prince George made an unexpected appearance in Barcelona as the father and son travelled to Spain to support their beloved Aston Villa. The Prince of Wales and his eldest son were spotted watching the club’s Champions League clash with FC Barcelona from a VIP box at the famous Camp Nou stadium, enjoying another memorable football outing together.
The two royals attended the match on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, joining a crowd of more than 80,000 spectators for the European fixture.
William, a lifelong Aston Villa supporter, has regularly travelled to watch his favourite team whenever his royal commitments allow.
The visit also gave the Prince an opportunity to spend time with George away from their usual family and royal responsibilities.

Prince William and Prince George Receive Special Welcome From Barcelona
The royal pair were spotted taking their seats in a VIP box at the Spotify Camp Nou ahead of Aston Villa’s Champions League encounter with Barcelona.
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona had received formal confirmation of their attendance before the match.
The club subsequently shared a message on social media welcoming the Prince of Wales and his eldest son.
“FC Barcelona is honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness Prince George to the Spotify Camp Nou,” the statement read.
“Thank you for joining us for a special evening of Champions League football featuring your beloved Aston Villa.”
Their appearance attracted attention as the two royals joined thousands of spectators for the major European fixture.
Prince George Joins His Father for Another European Football Trip
The Barcelona visit was not George’s first opportunity to accompany his father to an Aston Villa match abroad.
In 2025, the young royal travelled with William to Paris to watch the Birmingham club compete in the Champions League quarter-finals.
That appearance highlighted their shared interest in football, with George increasingly joining his father at important fixtures.
William has also been a regular presence at Aston Villa matches in Britain, including an appearance at Villa Park last month.
The latest trip to Spain continued the family’s connection with the club while allowing the Prince of Wales and his eldest son to enjoy time together.

William Explains Why He Chose Aston Villa Over Bigger Clubs
William has previously revealed the unusual reason he became an Aston Villa supporter.
During a 2015 interview with the BBC, the Prince explained that many of his school friends supported Manchester United or Chelsea.
Rather than following one of those clubs, he wanted to support a team that offered a different football experience.
“I wanted to have a team that was more middle of the table; that could give me the more emotional rollercoaster moments,” William said.
He explained that Aston Villa’s history and the friendships he had developed with fellow supporters contributed to his choice.
The Prince also recalled attending an FA Cup match between Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa in 2000.
Although Villa eventually lost to Chelsea in the final that year, the experience of watching the Birmingham side left a lasting impression.
A Childhood Football Memory That Stayed With William
Reflecting on that early match, William remembered sitting among Aston Villa supporters while wearing a red beanie.
He particularly enjoyed the atmosphere inside the stadium and the sense of community among the crowd.
The Prince described feeling connected to the supporters around him, recalling the excitement of sharing the occasion with people who were passionate about the club.
For William, the experience helped turn an initial interest in Aston Villa into a lifelong allegiance.
Over the years, he has continued supporting the team through major victories, disappointing results and important European fixtures.
His enthusiasm has also become something he shares with George, who has accompanied him to several matches.
A Special Father-Son Moment Away From Royal Duties

The Barcelona outing offered William and George another chance to enjoy football together as Aston Villa continued their Champions League campaign.
Although the Prince of Wales maintains a busy schedule of official engagements, he has often made time to attend matches when possible.
George’s growing involvement in those outings suggests that Aston Villa has become an important shared interest between father and son.
Their surprise appearance at Camp Nou was another example of that connection, bringing the two royals together for a major European football occasion.
For William, whose support for Aston Villa began during his childhood, watching the club alongside his own son has added a personal dimension to his longstanding passion for the game.
