Move Over Harlan Coben: Netflix’s New Thriller ‘His & Hers’ Promises An Addictive Murder Mystery With A Twist Factor That’s “Off The Scale”

Netflix may have found its next must-watch psychological thriller, and it could give even Harlan Coben’s biggest hits some serious competition. With a shocking murder, two deeply suspicious investigators and a story built around conflicting versions of the truth, His & Hers is already shaping up to be one of the most intriguing crime dramas on the streaming platform.

Based on Alice Feeney’s bestselling novel, the six-part series brings together two familiar Hollywood faces, Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal, in a mystery where nobody appears entirely innocent. And with both central characters having complicated personal connections to the victim, the investigation quickly becomes far more dangerous than either could have anticipated.

A MURDER INVESTIGATION WITH TWO VERY DIFFERENT SIDES

At the centre of His & Hers is Anna, played by Tessa Thompson, a former high-flying TV journalist whose life has taken a deeply reclusive turn. Having withdrawn from her friends, loved ones and professional career, she appears to have lost her sense of purpose.

That changes when news reaches her of a murder in Dahlonega, the quiet Georgia town where she grew up.

Suddenly, Anna is determined to uncover what happened. Her decision to investigate the killing puts her on a collision course with Detective Jack Harper, played by Jon Bernthal, who has been assigned to lead the official police investigation.

But Jack is far from convinced that Anna’s involvement is innocent.

As the two pursue their own lines of inquiry, troubling questions emerge about their respective relationships with the victim. Their personal connections to the case put both of them under suspicion, turning the investigation into a complicated psychological battle in which trust becomes increasingly difficult.

Netflix’s official synopsis sets the scene:

“Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna lives in haunting reclusivity, fading away from her friends and career as a news anchor. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega – the sleepy town where she grew up – Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers.

“Detective Jack Harper is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. There are two sides to every story: His & Hers, which means someone is always lying.”

That final line captures the central mystery perfectly. With two investigators, competing perspectives and a murder that connects them both, the series promises a steady stream of suspicion and revelations.

TESSA THOMPSON WAS HOOKED FROM THE START

Thompson has spoken enthusiastically about bringing Alice Feeney’s bestselling story to the screen, revealing that the project immediately caught her attention.

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, the actress said:

“I am beyond elated to be collaborating with a filmmaker I have long admired and an incredible team to make a fresh offering in a genre that I can never get enough of.

“From the second I heard what Will was imagining doing with Alice Feeney’s brilliant book to the moment I visited the town where our story is set, I was hooked.”

Her enthusiasm reflects the appeal of a story that combines an unsettling murder investigation with the psychological tension of two characters whose accounts may not tell the whole truth.
