“I don’t know who these people are,” Navarro said.

- The View cohosts called out “excessive” drama on Dancing With the Stars after Val Chmerkovskiy was suspended for one episode following online remarks about Carrie Ann Inaba.
- Inaba drew pro dancer Chmerkovskiy’s ire with her criticism of his wife, Jenna Johnson, also a pro dancer on the show.
- Whoopi Goldberg asked, “Why didn’t he just call her?” while Ana Navarro said she’s “boycotting” the show for a different reason.
Dancing With the Stars drama might be too much of a… lift… for the cohosts of The View.
After drama broke out over the weekend regarding pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy’s suspension over a since-deleted social media post reacting to judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s criticism of his wife, fellow pro dancer Jenna Johnson, The View stars reacted to the shocking developments from their posts at the Hot Topics table.
Panelist Sunny Hostin first said on Monday’s episode that Inaba — who pulled out a sheet of paper on last week’s live show to explain why Johnson performed an illegal lift on the air — “was a lot,” in her estimation.
“Why didn’t he just call her?” moderator Whoopi Goldberg then asked. “Why does everybody have to put everything on social media?”

She then advised: “Call her up on the phone, and say, ‘What kind of lift are we talking about, here?’ Instead of going to the public.”
Hostin continued, pointing out that the dancer has “been on that show for years and years and years,” and that “he could’ve just walked up to her into her dressing room and said, ‘Can I talk to you about the way you criticized my wife? I thought it was excessive.’” Hostin said things go “wrong” when there’s “this public back-and-forth,” as Inaba and others have also weighed in on the drama after Chmerkovskiy’s initial response referenced the infamous incident where Will Smith slapped host Chris Rock in the face at the 2022 Oscars.
“I feel bad for Jenna Dewan,” conservative panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin observed of Chmerkovskiy’s star partner on the competition series. “You get used to practicing with somebody. She’s also a professional dancer and is going to be fine, but it does kind of throw off the game.”
Finally, Ana Navarro admitted, “I don’t know who these people are,” and showed off a diagram her View producer made for her identifying the professional dancers and stars of DWTS.
Navarro went on to air another grievance over the ABC show — which airs on the same network as The View — eliminating fellow channel program Jimmy Kimmel Live sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez.
“Since they got rid of Guillermo last week after he danced to Bad Bunny, I am boycotting this thing,” Navarro said. “I want to know nothing. On behalf of fat Latinos everywhere, I’m standing up for Guillermo!”
After news broke of Chmerkovskiy’s suspension, the dancer shared on Instagram a statement addressing the incident.
“Hi everyone. As you may have seen in the news, I won’t be in the ballroom this week,” Chmerkovskiy wrote, later adding, “In a moment where my instinct was to defend my wife, I made a poor decision to reference a meme to ‘keep my wife’s name’ out of the conversation, without stopping to think through what else that reference could imply, which was genuinely never my intention. Carrie Ann certainly didn’t deserve to get caught in the middle of my bad judgment, and hate that she was.”

DWTS production company BBC Studios said in a statement that “the well-being of everyone who works on Dancing with the Stars is non-negotiable” and that “Val’s social media post was inappropriate and does not reflect the values or standards expected of anyone connected with the show.”
The cohosts of The View have long criticized other shows on the ABC network, with Goldberg making headlines in 2023 for saying the channel’s American Idol show marked “the downfall of society” during its original run on Fox.
Navarro has also complained on the air in the past when Hot Topics conversations revolve around shows she doesn’t like, such as ABC’s Bachelor franchise installments.
The View airs weekdays on ABC. Dancing With the Stars continues Tuesdays on the network and Disney+.
