The Grand Aurelia Ballroom glittered beneath crystal chandeliers as hundreds of New York’s wealthiest guests gathered for what everyone called the wedding of the year.
Celeste Whitmore stood in an ivory gown, smiling confidently beside her fiancé, Adrian Vale. Across the front row sat politicians, investors, and socialites waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Then the ballroom doors opened.
Helena Vale, Adrian’s mother, quietly walked inside wearing a faded gray dress and carrying a tiny wooden box.
Whispers spread instantly.
“She actually came dressed like that?”
“That must be her wedding gift.”
Celeste forced a sweet smile.
