Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK Return May Be Temporary as Insider Says Even They ‘Don’t Know Yet’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be preparing to bring their family back to Britain within days, but their much-discussed UK move may not be as permanent as initially assumed.

Reports last week claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would relocate to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, six years after establishing their life in the United States.

The children have reportedly already been enrolled in British schools, while Harry and Meghan are expected to live in a private, non-royal residence whose location has not been disclosed for security reasons.

However, a source close to the couple has now suggested that the Sussexes themselves may not have decided how long their latest chapter in Britain will last.

Sussexes could stay for six months, a year — or longer

Speaking to The Times, the source described the move as an “extended period” rather than necessarily a permanent relocation.

“It’ll be an extended period of time — it could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more — I don’t think even they know yet,” the source said.

That uncertainty could leave Harry and Meghan with considerable flexibility over where they eventually choose to base their family.

“They might suddenly go: ‘Why don’t we try Canada for a while? Why don’t we try Australia?’” the source continued. “It’s one of the great things about being private individuals [that they can live where they choose].”

Harry and Meghan have not themselves issued a statement confirming the details of their reported return, including whether Britain will become their permanent home.

Questions remain over why Harry and Meghan are returning

The absence of an official explanation has inevitably led to speculation about what prompted the reported move.

One suggestion is that Harry wants to spend more time closer to his father, King Charles.

Separate reports have linked Meghan to a possible acting opportunity based in Britain. However, no such role has been officially confirmed, and neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly identified it as a reason for the family’s plans.

What has been reported is that the Sussexes are expected to arrive from California before the end of August. The timing would give Archie and Lilibet an opportunity to settle in Britain before beginning at their new schools.

The exact school has not been disclosed.

Montecito isn’t being left behind

Even if the Sussex family spends a significant amount of time in Britain, reports indicate that they are not completely dismantling the life they have built overseas.

Harry and Meghan are expected to retain their Montecito home in California, where they have lived with their children for much of the past six years.

They are also reportedly keeping their holiday home in Portugal.

Even the family’s pets appear to reflect the potentially flexible nature of the arrangement. Reports suggest their chickens will remain at the Montecito property, while their two dogs are expected to travel with the family to Britain.

For now, the biggest unanswered question is therefore not simply whether Harry and Meghan are coming back to the UK, but how long they intend to stay.
