Prince William may be facing an uncomfortable new reality following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell decision to return to Britain — because keeping his estranged brother at a distance could suddenly become much harder.

The Prince of Wales has reportedly been left “furious” by the Sussexes’ decision to relocate to the UK with Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five. But royal commentators are now warning that the biggest blow for William may come after Harry arrives: refusing to engage with his brother could increasingly leave William looking like the person standing in the way of reconciliation.

Importantly, the description of William as “furious” comes from reporting and royal commentary; William himself has not issued a public statement using that language.

According to GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker, William and Harry remain estranged.

“William and Harry are not on speaking terms, I can tell you that for a fact,” Walker said during a discussion of the Sussexes’ return.

The brothers’ relationship deteriorated dramatically following Harry and Meghan’s departure from working royal life, their interview with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir Spare.

For years, living on opposite sides of the Atlantic made that estrangement relatively easy to maintain.

As Walker pointed out, avoiding an estranged sibling is much easier when “there’s an Atlantic ocean in between you.” Once Harry and Meghan are living in Britain, King Charles could potentially invite them to private family occasions that William would ordinarily attend.
