Rangers Legend Nacho Novo ‘Absolutely Broken’ After Death Of ‘Beautiful Son’ — ‘Forever In Our Hearts’

Rangers legend Nacho Novo has shared the heartbreaking news that his “beautiful boy” has died, saying nothing in his life could have prepared him for having to make such a devastating announcement.

The former Rangers striker, 47, revealed the tragedy in an emotional Instagram post alongside photographs with his stepson Ross, asking for privacy as his family comes to terms with the loss.

“Nothing in my life could’ve prepared me for this post,” Novo wrote. “We are absolutely broken to share the sad news that our beautiful boy has tragically passed away.”

He continued: “Please respect our families privacy during this extremely difficult time. Forever in our hearts my boy.”

The announcement prompted an immediate outpouring of support from across football and the wider Rangers community.

Rangers FC responded: “The thoughts of everyone at Rangers are with you at this sad time Nacho.”

Sports broadcaster Laura Woods also offered her condolences, writing: “I’m so sorry for your loss Nacho, rest in peace your beautiful boy.”

Wrestling star Grado described the news as “absolutely heart breaking”, while former footballer Nazmi Albadawi also sent his support.

Rangers fan page Rangers Til’ I Die wrote: “Our thoughts are with Nacho Novo and his family following the heartbreaking news of the passing of his son. During this incredibly difficult time, the entire Rangers family stands behind you and your loved ones. Sending you strength and love.”

Oswalds Bar, a Rangers pub in Glasgow city centre, added: “Our thoughts are with you Nacho.”

A Family Already Tested By His Health Battle

Novo has previously spoken about facing a serious health crisis of his own.

The former footballer suffered a heart attack in 2018 and was rushed to hospital in Berlin following a friendly match involving Ibrox legends. He underwent emergency surgery as cardiologists worked to save his life.

Just weeks later, Novo suffered a stroke that left him paralysed and unable to speak for two days.

At the time, he recalled calling his then seven-year-old son from the operating theatre and later described him as “my rock, my everything”.

Novo is now facing an unimaginable loss within the same family he has previously spoken about as a source of strength.

From Ibrox Hero To Darvel Manager

Novo remains involved in Scottish football, having been appointed manager of Darvel FC in November last year after previously coaching at West of Scotland Premier side Drumchapel.

Darvel described the former striker as bringing “a wealth of experience and a passion for developing talented players” when announcing his appointment.

During his Rangers career, Novo scored 47 goals in 179 appearances for the club and became a familiar figure to supporters at Ibrox.

But as tributes continue to arrive from former teammates, broadcasters, fellow sportspeople and Rangers fans, football has understandably been pushed into the background.

For Novo and his family, this is a moment of profound personal grief — and his simple message has made clear just how deeply they are hurting.
