Harry & Meghan’s School Security Fiasco Erupts… Experts Are Baffled by the One Mistake That Changed Everything! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain has hit another dramatic setback after Archie and Lilibet were reportedly pulled out of their new school after just TWO DAYS.

Harry and Meghan’s School Security Crisis Raises Questions Over Planning

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have moved their children to another school after just two days, following security concerns over the journey from the family’s new home to their first choice of school in Britain.

The abrupt decision has prompted questions about why the route was apparently assessed only during the summer holidays, when traffic conditions were very different from those during the school run.

Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, began at the unnamed private prep school after Harry and Meghan returned to Britain from California in late August. But within 48 hours, their private security team concluded that the daily journey was difficult to manage safely.

According to reports, the convoy became separated in heavy term-time traffic, raising concerns that the children and their protection team could be left stationary and exposed for extended periods. The journey could take as long as an hour each way.

ITV News reported that security staff had been considering several practical problems, including how long the vehicles would be stuck in traffic, whether the family and security cars could remain together, the repetitive nature of making the same journey every day, and the overall length of the commute.

The school itself was not blamed. A spokesman for the Sussexes said the decision followed discussions with the family’s security team about their existing arrangements and stressed that Harry and Meghan remained grateful to the teachers and staff.

“The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family,” the spokesman said. “This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.”

Reports from the Daily Mail said the security team had only been able to test the route during the summer holidays, meaning they had not experienced the full scale of school-term congestion before Archie and Lilibet actually began classes.

That has led to criticism from former senior police officers, who questioned why the practical difficulties had not been identified before the children started school.

Former Met Police Chief Superintendent Dal Babu described the episode as evidence that the Sussexes’ return to Britain may have been rushed. He questioned why the arrangements had not been worked out earlier.

Former head of royal protection Dai Davies also questioned whether such a prominent convoy was necessary for the school run, arguing that maintaining a lower profile could reduce the family’s visibility.

Harry and Meghan's security team advised the couple that traffic on the school run and the distance covered was putting a strain on them.

His comments reflected one of the central questions surrounding the episode: how to provide effective protection without creating a highly visible convoy that can itself become difficult to manage in congested traffic.

Parents at the school were also reportedly surprised by the decision. One mother with two children there said the Sussexes’ arrival had initially generated considerable excitement among families, but added that the congestion in the area was well known.

Another parent reportedly described the traffic problems as something that was always likely to occur during the school run.

The children have since moved to another school closer to home. They visited the new school for a taster session, and the shorter journey is understood to have been viewed more favourably by their security team. ITV News reported that security staff assessed the new school on Friday before Archie and Lilibet attended a taster session on Monday and began their first full day there on Tuesday.

The school change comes as Harry’s security is reviewed

The school controversy has unfolded at the same time as a significant development in Harry’s long-running dispute over police protection in Britain.

The Duke of Sussex’s access to publicly funded security is being reviewed following the family’s return to the UK as full-time residents.

The Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as Ravec, has informed Harry that his security arrangements will undergo a full review. Meghan is also due to have her own Risk Management Board assessment, which would be the first review of the potential risks and threats facing her since the couple stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

Harry’s situation is different in one important respect. A new Risk Management Board assessment was completed for him in July, around eight weeks before the latest review. At that time, however, those assessing his circumstances did not know that he was about to relocate Meghan and their children to Britain.

In another picture, Harry plays archery with Archie... He and Meghan are said to be extremely grateful for the 'exceptional care' the children received at their prep school

The new assessment therefore comes as the family’s circumstances have changed significantly. Archie and Lilibet are now attending school in Britain, while Harry and Meghan have established their home in the country after six years in California.

The current arrangements have been a source of frustration for Harry for years.

After he and Meghan stepped back as senior working royals in 2020, Harry lost his automatic entitlement to taxpayer-funded police protection. He subsequently challenged the decision through the courts but lost a series of legal battles.

Harry has argued that his position as the son of the British monarch, fifth in line to the throne and a former British Army serviceman who completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan means he faces risks that require a higher level of protection.

He has also argued that private security cannot provide the same protection as armed police.

British police do not publicly disclose detailed security arrangements for members of the Royal Family or other protected individuals. However, protection is understood to be assessed according to individual circumstances and can be provided on a case-by-case basis.

Harry has received police security at some events during recent visits to Britain, including charity engagements, but that does not amount to an automatic entitlement to permanent protection.

According to ITV News, the Sussexes had been given the telephone number of a police liaison officer, which Harry regards as inadequate because officers could take time to reach the family if an emergency occurred. ITV also reported that additional interim security measures had been introduced around the family’s new home.

The Sussexes continue to pay for private protection. In Britain, however, their close-protection officers cannot carry firearms, unlike the arrangements available to some private security personnel in the United States.

The Home Office has declined to provide details of the family’s security arrangements, saying the UK’s protective security system is “rigorous and proportionate” and that releasing operational information could compromise security.

The review of Harry and Meghan’s security therefore comes at a particularly significant moment, with their return to Britain changing the circumstances on which previous decisions were based.

King Charles’s position and the Ravec review

The security review also follows renewed discussion over the Sussexes’ status within the Royal Family.

Some people close to Harry had previously suggested that a letter from Buckingham Palace, making clear that Harry and Meghan remain private citizens rather than working royals, could have been intended to influence Ravec’s consideration of his security.

Those claims were disputed. The Daily Mail reported that the letter was intended to clarify the couple’s status ahead of their programme in Britain rather than interfere with Harry’s dispute with the Home Office. People close to King Charles were said to believe that clarifying the issue could also make private meetings between father and son easier.

The subsequent decision by Ravec to conduct a full review of Harry’s security, together with a separate assessment of Meghan, means that the palace letter did not prevent the process from going ahead.

ITV News royal correspondent Chris Ship reported that the decision was made because Harry is now living in Britain and his children have begun attending a British school.

The latest review will consider the risks facing both Harry and Meghan in their new circumstances.

That comes after years of disagreement between Harry and the Home Office over the level of protection he should receive in Britain. His legal challenge to the arrangements has been unsuccessful, while his return with his wife and children has created a substantially different set of circumstances for officials to consider.

Meghan shared scenes of the family enjoying the British countryside as they settled into life in the UK

Harry’s 42nd birthday

The school controversy coincided with Harry’s 42nd birthday on September 15.

Meghan marked the occasion by sharing a series of family photographs on Instagram, showing the couple with Archie, Lilibet and their Labrador, Pula.

In the caption, she wrote: “He’s simply the best. Happy birthday, my love,” accompanied by a heart emoji.

The photographs offered glimpses of the family’s outdoor life. Harry was pictured kissing Lilibet, carrying her bicycle and spending time with both children. Another image showed him riding a quad bike with Archie and Lilibet sitting behind him while Pula followed.

Other photographs showed Harry and Meghan together, the children playing outdoors and Harry taking part in archery with Archie.

The family images came as Archie and Lilibet began settling into their new school following the abrupt move.

Reports have stressed that Harry and Meghan were happy with their first choice of school and that the children enjoyed their brief time there. Their decision to leave was instead presented as a practical response to the security team’s concerns about the daily journey.

A source close to the couple described the decision as difficult because the school had otherwise been a good fit for the children. The family’s spokesman likewise emphasized that the move should not be viewed as criticism of the school or its staff.

The central issue was the school run itself: heavy traffic, a long commute and the difficulty of keeping the family’s vehicles together in congested conditions.

The episode has consequently raised broader questions about how the Sussexes’ return to Britain was planned, particularly how their security arrangements were assessed before Archie and Lilibet began school.

For now, the children have moved to a school closer to home, while Harry and Meghan await the outcome of the government’s review of their security arrangements.

Their new life in Britain is therefore beginning with two issues still being worked out: where their children will attend school and what level of official protection the family will receive.
