Princess Kate’s Private Four-Word Verdict on Harry and Meghan Emerges as Sussexes Return to the UK
The return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the UK has brought old tensions within the Royal Family back into focus — and an account of Princess Kate’s private reaction to the couple’s Oprah Winfrey interview has now resurfaced.
Harry and Meghan have reportedly returned to Britain, settling into a private non-royal residence and enrolling their two children, Archie and Lilibet, in British schools. The move represents a dramatic change from their decision in 2020 to step back from royal life and relocate to Montecito, California.

After leaving their roles as senior working royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex pursued financial independence and gave a series of high-profile interviews. Their most explosive appearance came during their interview with Oprah Winfrey, when they made a series of allegations about their experiences within the Royal Family.
Harry later offered another deeply personal account in his memoir Spare, presenting what he described as a tell-all version of his life inside the monarchy.
But according to details from Russell Myers’ biography William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, the Oprah interview reportedly changed the way Kate viewed her brother-in-law and Meghan.
The Princess of Wales had initially been willing to give Meghan a chance when she joined the Royal Family. However, the book claims Kate eventually concluded that the Sussexes were “not to be trusted.”

She reportedly believed their behaviour suggested they “had an agenda”, rather than simply being difficult members of the family.
Kate is also said to have reached the view that Harry’s eventual departure from royal life was “inevitable.”
Her position reportedly differed from that of Prince William in another important respect. According to the account, Kate had been less interested than her husband in trying to prevent Harry and Meghan from walking away from royal duties.
As the relationship between the brothers deteriorated, Kate was once regarded as a potential “voice of reason” who might help bring them back together. But eventually, she reportedly felt she could do no more to repair the fractured relationship.

Now, with Harry and Meghan back in the UK, the family dynamic remains complicated.
Royal sources have indicated that William and King Charles are “completely united” in refusing to allow the Sussexes to return to a “half in, half out” position within the monarchy.
Harry is not expected to resume his former royal duties, although he has reportedly continued efforts to repair his relationship with his father.
For Kate, however, the account suggests that the Oprah interview represented a decisive moment — one that left her questioning whether Harry and Meghan could ever again be fully trusted.
