A seemingly simple question on The 1% Club sparked a heated debate among viewers, with many convinced that the show’s official answer was wrong. The puzzle left contestants scratching their heads and prompted fans to question whether there was more than one possible solution.
Hosted by Lee Mack, the popular ITV quiz show challenged contestants to identify which of five groups of six symbols appeared in the same order when read from left to right and from right to left.
The correct answer was revealed as C, but plenty of viewers were far from convinced. Many argued that option A also appeared to fit the instructions, turning the question into a talking point across social media.
One frustrated viewer admitted: “Baffled! I didn’t understand this one at all.”
Another took to Twitter to ask: “Can someone please explain how it’s C?”
A third was equally unconvinced, writing: “I said A and I still think A. I don’t understand how it’s not.”

Why Did Viewers Think the Answer Was Wrong?
The disagreement centred on how the symbols should be interpreted when viewed in reverse order. Some fans believed the wording left room for confusion, while others tried to explain why the programme’s answer was correct.
One viewer suggested that the puzzle was a trick question, arguing that either A or C could be considered correct depending on how the instruction to read from right to left was understood.
Another fan offered a possible explanation, saying they had initially chosen A as well. However, they pointed out that option A began with an opening or closing bracket in a way that did not match when the sequence was reversed, whereas option C began and ended with matching symbols.
The discussion continued as puzzle enthusiasts examined the difference between reversing a sequence and simply looking at the symbols as mirror images.
One viewer explained that the task was not about whether the symbols looked identical when reflected. Instead, it was about whether the same symbols appeared in the same order when read from either direction.
Under that interpretation, option A failed because the brackets changed their order when read backwards. Option C, on the other hand, contained directional symbols arranged so that the sequence remained consistent from both ends.
Despite these explanations, the question left many viewers questioning the wording and debating whether their original answers should have counted.
Four Contestants Share £97,000
The debate came during an episode that ended on a high note for four contestants, who successfully answered the final question and shared a prize fund of £97,000.
Lee Mack was delighted for the winners, while just two contestants missed out on the grand prize after giving incorrect answers.
Although the winning group managed to navigate the final challenge, the earlier puzzle proved much more divisive among viewers at home.
So, what do you think? Was option C clearly the only correct answer, or was the wording confusing enough to make A seem equally plausible?
