The international soccer community is mourning an absolute tragedy this week after a shocking weather disaster stopped a match.
The catastrophic event occurred during a highly competitive Golok Cup tournament matchup at Santiphap Stadium in Thailand. Subsequently, the talented twenty-four-year-old athlete Sofwan Awae was directly impacted by a massive, blinding bolt of electrical energy.
The electric current immediately knocked multiple players to the ground, creating total panic throughout the stadium. Additionally, emergency medical personnel rushed onto the pitch but, unfortunately, could not resuscitate the heavily injured winger.
Sudden On-Field Disaster Ends a Promising Career
The regional club Yala FC officially confirmed the passing of their newly signed athletic prospect. While fans are sending deep sympathies to the grieving family, authorities are tracking the health of the other injured players.
Awae spent a highly successful period with Pattani FC in the Thai League 3. He served as a key player for the squad, scoring 7 goals in 18 appearances. His standout performances directly helped the club secure a vital promotion to Thai League 2.
Following his breakthrough performances, he caught the attention of FC Yala (competing in the Thai League 3 Southern Region). Seeking the next major step in his football journey, Awae signed a contract with the club on July 29, 2026.
His death came days after finalizing his transfer to FC Yala.
