Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, announced yesterday the birth of their baby daughter in Lisbon.
The King’s niece and her family divide their time between a picturesque villa in Portugal and a cottage at Kensington Palace. She posted on Instagram: ‘Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie.’
The daughter of disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, accompanied the news with a photo of the newborn lying on a bed and was greeted with messages of goodwill from her many followers.
While the pair have kept information to a minimum as they settle into life as a family of five, below the Daily Mail has revealed all the details you might’ve missed in Eugenie’s post.

Eugenie chooses against revealing her newborn’s name
Unlike with her two older children, Eugenie chose not to reveal her daughter’s name when announcing her birth online.
The princess introduced her then-new son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank to the world in February 2021 and said ‘words can’t express’ just how much she loves him.
Photographs of the delighted Eugenie , husband Jack and their new baby, who weighed 8 lb 1oz when he was born at London’s Portland Hospital, were posted on social media.
At the time, royal sources said that August was named after Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert, who was christened Franz Albert August Karl Emanuel.
The name also incorporates a tribute to Eugenie’s grandfather Prince Philip, while Hawke refers to Mr Brooksbank’s great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.
Writing on Instagram, Eugenie also referenced her father Andrew, who had just celebrated his 61st birthday.
She said: ‘On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy. He is named after his great-grandfather and both of his 5x great-grandfathers.
‘Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human; words can’t express.’
Two years later, she posted similarly about the news of her second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, in May 2023.
Ernest was born at the private Portland Hospital in London like his brother – and his mother before him.
Weighing 7lbs 1oz, his name nodded to his late grandfather, Jack’s dad George, who died aged 72 in 2021, and Fergie’s father Major Ronald Ferguson.
Eugenie also said his name was a tribute to his great-great-great-grandfather George V, whose middle name was also Ernest.
A statement read: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.’
Eugenie’s brother-in-law, Edo Mapelli Mozzi, also left a message on her Instagram post.
Princess Beatrice’s husband, 42, posted three pink love heart emojis in a message of support.
Beatrice, Edo, Eugenie and Jack appear to share a close bond and are often spotted out and about together, including arriving at Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding in June together.
The newborn becomes the third royal in a century to not be born in the UK
Eugenie gave birth at an undisclosed hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, earlier this week, making her newborn the third royal baby in 100 years to be born outside of the UK.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were the most recent to do so after Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California, a private facility where births cost up to £20,000, in June 2021.
Another relatively recent overseas royal birth was Maud Windsor, born in 2013 in Los Angeles where her parents Lord Frederick Windsor and Sophie Winkleman were living. Maud, the first grandchild of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, is 56th in line to the throne.
The California hospital where Meghan gave birth to Lilibet is a large not-for-profit foundation set up in 1888 by a group of 50 women that oversees 2,400 births a year.
Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is proud of its all-female founders, a heritage likely to have resonated with Meghan, given her interest in female empowerment.
Located in downtown Santa Barbara, it is one of the closest hospitals to their £11million mansion in nearby Montecito, which is roughly 10 minutes away by car.
A local source suggests pop star Katy Perry, neighbour to Meghan and Harry in Montecito, also had her baby Daisy there the August prior.
Meghan and Harry’s son Archie, seven, meanwhile, was born at the private Portland Hospital, central London.

For her first picture, the newborn was dressed in Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece’s luxury children’s range.
Baby Brooksbank put on an adorable display in the £55 Angel Wing Pointelle Sleepsuit in Pink with a £45 hat from the Pima Cotton Baby Gift Set.
In January last year, Beatrice also paid tribute to her Greek ancestry in the first photo of her then-newborn daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose.
The photo of Athena Elizabeth shared by Buckingham Palace showed her wrapped up in a knitted blanket designed by her distant cousin, Marie-Chantal.
The blanket retails for £240 on Harrods’ website or £225 from Marie Chantal’s online shop and is made of luxury fabric.
The princess’s designs have proved popular among celebrities, with Nicky Hilton’s flower girls famously wearing her creations in July 2015.
Marie-Chantal has a long history of associating with the rich and famous; before she married into the royal family, the London-born blonde – whose father was the co-founder of duty-free shopping, Robert Warren Miller – worked for Andy Warhol.
The Crown Princess is the wife of Crown Prince Pavlos – the 59-year-old heir to the Greek throne.
Alongside bringing up her own children, Marie founded her luxury childrenswear brand, Marie-Chantal, in 2000 – and her company has gone from strength to strength, expanding throughout the UK.

Like many men in the Royal Family, Jack doesn’t wear his wedding band on his ring finger, but pairs it with a signet ring on his pinky finger, much like the individual shown in the Instagram post.
It’s a habit also followed by King Charles, who chose to wear his wedding ring on his little finger underneath his signet ring, which, bearing the fleur-de-lys crest of the Prince of Wales, was believed to be a gift from his parents.
It is believed to have some from his great-uncle, Prince Edward, who had been the Prince of Wales when he met divorcée (and married) Wallis Simpson, before ascending the throne as Edward VIII, and later abdicating in 1936, becoming the Duke of Windsor.
In the King’s 2025 portrait, however, he sported a different signet ring: one believed to have belonged to his father, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April 2021.
Meanwhile, Prince William does not wear a wedding band at all. At the time of his royal wedding to the Princess of Wales, a royal source explained: ‘It is quite common for men in that strata of society not to wear a traditional wedding band.
‘If they do, they tend to wear it with their family signet ring but William doesn’t have one of those.’
Eugenie carries on tradition
Given the public scrutiny on the House of York in recent times, the Princess might’ve chosen to maintain a low-key profile and not share the news on her public page.
However, she continued with tradition and announced the birth on Instagram, as she did with August and Ernest.
Eugenie’s family has undergone a tumultuous year after Andrew and Sarah’s twisted relationship with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein came to light.
Andrew was later stripped of his titles and agreed to surrender his lease on the 30-room Royal Lodge, where he has paid ‘peppercorn rent’ for decades.
Eugenie has also felt the impact after an anti-slavery charity scrubbed her name from its website – after millions of emails laid bare her father’s relationship with Epstein.
Andrew’s youngest daughter is no longer a patron of Anti-Slavery International, the world’s oldest human rights organisation.
The charity had once hailed Eugenie’s work ‘across the board with leaders in the fight against modern slavery’.
But now the royal’s profile has been removed entirely after seven years of partnership – with the group confirming ‘our patronage from HRH Princess Eugenie of York has come to an end’, the Observer reported.
A statement read: ‘After seven years, our patronage from HRH Princess Eugenie of York has come to an end.
‘We thank the Princess very much for her support for Anti-Slavery International. We hope that she continues to work to end slavery for good and deliver freedom for everyone.’
