This new BBC sitcom starring Diane Morgan could just be your next weekend binge.

Trying to find something new to watch on TV can sometimes feel stressful, especially with so many streaming services and millions of series and films to choose from. But if you want something that’s easy to watch and can be digested in one weekend, then the BBC might have just launched the perfect series for you.

Last week, a new six-part sitcom created and written by Diane Morgan and Sarah Kendall premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and it’s said to be so good that fans are already demanding a second series – just days after the first one was released.

The series is called Ann Droid, and centres around a woman named Sue and her android assistant robot, Linda. The sitcom is set in 2029, and follows Sue, whose husband died 18 months prior, and Linda, the secondhand Basic Eldercare Robot bought by Sue’s son, Michael, who is moving out of the house to try and fix his marriage.

And while the series is a sitcom at heart, it has been praised for the sensitive way it handles tough topics like grief, with some fans even saying it helped them process their own emotions.

After a clip of the show was shared on TikTok by the official BBC account, several fans heaped praise on the series, with many saying that they’d love to see a second series as soon as possible, as they’ve already binged every available episode.

One person said: “This show was great, hope there’s a second series.”

Another added: “Sue, Sue, Sue we need a season Two, Two, Two!”

A third wrote: “This is so much better than I expected it to be … the rollercoaster moment had me screaming.”

Other commenters spoke highly of Diane Morgan, who plays the android Linda in the show, as well as co-creating and co-writing it, as they said they would be tuning in just to watch her performance.

Someone noted: “It’s a lovely show. Everything Diane Morgan touches turns to gold.”

Someone else shared: “Diane Morgan, genius of comedy. Ann Droid does not disappoint.”

There were also people from other parts of the world, including Germany and Australia, who begged the BBC to allow the series to be licensed in their countries so they could watch it as the short clip seemed so funny.

Alongside Diane Morgan, Ann Droid also stars Sue Johnston as Sue and Paul Ready as Michael. Sarah Kendall, the other co-creator and co-writer of the series alongside Diane, plays a delivery driver named Cass.

Other stars in the cast include Leila Hoffman, Michelle Greenidge, Danny John-Jules, David Hargreaves, and Kathryn Hunter. There’s even a cameo appearance from Rylan Clark, who plays Robot Rylan.

The series is made up of six episodes, all of which can be watched now on BBC iPlayer. The show is also being aired on TV once a week, with the second episode airing on Friday (24th July). The televised version of the show is set to end on 21st August.

As of the time of writing, it is unknown whether the show will be commissioned for a second series.

Ann Droid is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer now.
