I Nearly Left Liverpool… Alexis Mac Allister Drops Stunning Contract Bombshell After Scoring, Admits He’s “Very Sad” Over The Reds’ Silence — And Jamie Carragher Has Had Enough Alexis Mac Allister Has Opened Up On The Uncertainty Surrounding His Liverpool Future, Admitting He Came Close To Leaving The Club This Summer And Revealing That He Is “Very Sad” Over The Lack Of A New Contract. But Rather Than Simply Backing The Midfielder, Jamie Carragher Challenged The Way Mac Allister Had Addressed The Situation. What Mac Allister Said About His Future — And The Point Carragher Immediately Pushed Back On — Sparked A Revealing Debate Between The Two.

Jamie Carragher Takes Aim At Alexis Mac Allister After Liverpool Star Goes Public With Contract Frustration

Jamie Carragher has delivered a blunt verdict on Alexis Mac Allister’s decision to speak publicly about his Liverpool contract frustration — despite admitting the midfielder backed up his words in spectacular fashion against Atletico Madrid.

Mac Allister had revealed before Wednesday night’s Champions League clash that he was “very sad” Liverpool had not approached him over a new deal, particularly after fellow midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai had both secured contract extensions.

The Argentina international also admitted he had options to leave Anfield during the summer but had chosen to stay, insisting he wanted to continue giving everything for the club.

Then came the perfect response on the pitch.

Mac Allister scored Liverpool’s winning goal as they came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid at Anfield, turning a difficult week into a memorable night.

For Carragher, however, the goal did not completely erase his concerns over the way Mac Allister handled the contract situation.

‘Still Doesn’t Make What He Did Right’

Speaking on CBS Sports after the victory, Carragher praised Mac Allister for delivering when it mattered — but maintained that the midfielder should not have taken his frustrations to the media.

“Mac Allister, who talked the talk yesterday and today he walked the walk,” Carragher said.

“Still doesn’t make what he did yesterday right in the press conference, but he’ll be looked on more favourably after getting the winning goal.”

Carragher’s criticism reflects a long-standing view that Liverpool players should keep contract disputes away from the public spotlight.

He has previously expressed his disapproval when Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah discussed their own contract situations publicly.

Salah eventually left Liverpool, while Van Dijk remained at Anfield and is now entering the final year of his current deal.

Mac Allister Makes His Feelings Clear

Mac Allister had been unusually open when asked about his future ahead of the Atletico match.

The 27-year-old admitted it had been difficult watching Gravenberch and Szoboszlai sign new deals while Liverpool had told him they were not currently in a position to offer him an extension.

“Everybody can see I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training, games,” Mac Allister said.

“Of course, I have very good games and bad games like everyone but always I give my best.”

He also stressed that his disappointment had not changed his feelings towards the club.

“I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad as I didn’t get mine.”

His Liverpool Future Remains Uncertain

Mac Allister has made it clear that he is not actively pushing for an exit despite having opportunities to leave during the summer.

Instead, he remains determined to stay at Liverpool and leave the door open for the club to change its position in the future.

“Of course there is still time,” he said. “The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100 per cent until the last day I am here. We will see what happens.”

His decisive strike against Atletico has now given him the strongest possible answer to the controversy — at least on the pitch.

For Carragher, though, the issue remains separate. Mac Allister may have “walked the walk” at Anfield, but the Liverpool legend clearly believes there was a better way to handle his contract frustration in the first place.
