The 1% Club Viewers Criticise ‘Mind-Bending’ Final Question After Sara Misses Out on £94,000 Jackpot
A contestant on The 1% Club came agonisingly close to winning £94,000 after correctly working out the show’s notoriously difficult final question — but only after she had already decided not to risk her winnings. The moment left viewers frustrated, with many questioning whether the puzzle was too complicated to solve in just 30 seconds.
The episode, which aired on Saturday, 29 March 2025, saw host Lee Mack reassure contestant Sara that choosing the safer option had been a sensible decision, despite the answer she gave afterwards being correct.

Sara chooses a guaranteed payout over the jackpot
Hosted by comedian Lee Mack, ITV’s The 1% Club challenges contestants to solve increasingly difficult puzzles using logic and common sense rather than general knowledge.
The show begins with 100 players, who must work through a series of questions to stay in the competition. Those who reach the final stage have the opportunity to win a share of a prize pot worth up to £100,000 by answering a question that only 1% of the public can solve.
During Saturday’s episode, finalists Sara and Rhia faced a difficult decision. Rather than attempt the final question for the £94,000 jackpot, they switched off their lights to confirm they would accept a guaranteed £10,000 to share between them.
When Lee asked Sara why she had chosen not to take the risk, she explained that she did not want to leave empty-handed and wanted to protect her pride.
Although both contestants had opted for the safer payout, they were still given 30 seconds to attempt the final puzzle for fun.
The 30-second puzzle that left viewers baffled

The question focused on a fictional character named Yolande and her supply of tablets.
The challenge read: “Yolande takes one tablet on every day of the week that has three vowels in total in it. She starts this pack on 2nd March. What date will she need to start a new pack?”
Once the time was up, Rhia admitted she was guessing, suggesting 23 March as her answer.
Sara, however, proposed 26 March, specifically identifying it as a Tuesday.
She was right.
The solution required contestants to identify the days of the week whose names contain three vowels: Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Yolande therefore needed to take 10 tablets in total, one on each of those days, before starting a new pack on 26 March.
Had Sara chosen to attempt the final question rather than secure the guaranteed payout, she could have won the £94,000 jackpot.
Even Lee acknowledged how difficult the puzzle was, admitting that he understood why Sara had decided against gambling her winnings.
He told her she would have answered correctly, but reminded her that contestants cannot know how challenging the final question will be before they commit to playing.
Lee added that, given the potential difficulty of the challenge, he still believed she had made the right decision.
Viewers question whether the question was too difficult

The puzzle quickly sparked debate on social media, with viewers taking to X to share their frustration over the amount of information they had to process within the 30-second time limit.
One viewer jokingly questioned who had come up with such a mind-bending challenge.
Another admitted they had initially considered the days of the week and their vowels before becoming distracted by the mention of tablets.
A third said they had correctly identified Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday but mistakenly counted 12 tablets, leading them to suggest 30 March instead.
Others admitted they had been unable to reach an answer before the clock ran out, while one viewer said they had arrived at 26 March but felt there was simply too much to work through in such a short period.
Sara’s near miss highlighted the difficult balance contestants face on The 1% Club: taking a chance on a potentially life-changing prize or protecting the money they have already secured. Although she ultimately missed out on the jackpot, her correct answer after the decision had been made left viewers wondering what might have happened if she had trusted her instincts.
