Prince Harry Enjoys Solo Rugby Night Out As He Hopes To Take Archie And Lilibet To A Match One Day
Prince Harry has been spotted enjoying a night of rugby in Leicester, but behind the Duke of Sussex’s relaxed appearance lies a family wish that reportedly remains on hold until his security situation is resolved.
The Duke attended the Gallagher PREM match between Leicester Tigers and Gloucester Rugby at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium on Friday, October 9, 2026. Dressed casually in blue jeans and a black puffer jacket, Harry was photographed watching the action from the stands with a drink in his hand.
At one point, he raised both arms in the air, while other photographs showed him chatting with a spectator seated beside him.
Although his older brother, Prince William, is known for his passion for football, rugby has long been Harry’s preferred sport.
“For Harry it’s all about rugby over football,” a source told HELLO!.

Harry’s Wish To Share His Love Of Rugby With Archie And Lilibet
While it remains unclear which team Harry was supporting during Friday’s match, the Duke reportedly hopes to introduce his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the experience of watching rugby in person.
According to a source, the children support Northampton, and Harry is looking forward to taking them to a match when the family’s security arrangements allow.
“Harry says Archie and Lilli support Northampton and he’s looking forward to the day that he can take them to a match once his security situation is sorted. He says it’s one hurdle at a time,” the source told HELLO!.
The reported wish highlights an ongoing challenge for the Sussexes as they navigate life outside the working Royal Family. Harry and Meghan lost their taxpayer-funded security when they stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Harry previously served as patron of the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League. He relinquished those positions, along with other royal patronages, in 2021 after he and Meghan confirmed to the late Queen Elizabeth II that they would not return as working members of the Royal Family. The Princess of Wales subsequently took over the rugby patronages.

Meghan Markle’s London Appearance Raises Fresh Security Questions
Harry’s rugby outing came just days after Meghan was photographed in central London, marking her first public sighting in the British capital since returning to the UK in late August.
On Wednesday, the Duchess of Sussex was seen at Claridge’s hotel with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai. Images of the pair quickly drew attention, particularly given Harry’s previous comments about the family’s security concerns in the UK.
Speaking on HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast, the magazine’s Royal Editor, Emily Nash, questioned what might have changed since Harry’s earlier visit.
“None of this is low-key. And this is why I think this whole move is quite extraordinary,” Nash said.

She pointed out that when Harry returned to Britain in June, he had said it was not safe for him to bring Meghan and their children to London. The family subsequently stayed outside the capital during their UK visit.
Nash questioned why Meghan had now appeared in central London, particularly after being photographed leaving the hotel in elegant clothing alongside Malala.
She acknowledged that Meghan might not have been responsible for the photographs being taken, but raised the possibility that the couple had greater confidence in their security arrangements.
“They must be confident that they are either having or about to have some better security, perhaps?” Nash remarked, adding that the latest appearance seemed to differ from what had been reported just a couple of months earlier.
A Family Balancing Public Appearances And Security Concerns
The contrast between Harry’s solo appearance at a major sporting event and Meghan’s high-profile outing in London has renewed attention on the couple’s circumstances during their latest UK visit.
For Harry, rugby remains a personal passion, but taking Archie and Lilibet to a match is reportedly a goal he intends to pursue only when the family’s security situation is settled.
For now, the Duke appears to be taking things one step at a time, with the hope of eventually sharing one of his favourite sports with his children.
