Prince William’s Six-Word Response on The Graham Norton Show Sparks Claims of a Subtle Dig at Harry and Meghan
Prince William’s surprise appearance on The Graham Norton Show has sparked speculation that a seemingly innocent exchange with the host contained a subtle dig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Prince of Wales appeared relaxed as he brushed aside formalities over his royal title, prompting one royal commentator to question whether the moment carried a deeper meaning.
William, 44, appeared on the BBC chat show last week alongside Hollywood stars Cate Blanchett and Hannah Waddingham and Australian conservationist Robert Irwin.
The future King joined the programme to promote his environmental initiative, the Earthshot Prize, ahead of its annual awards ceremony in Mumbai, India, next month.

Prince William’s Casual Response Catches Attention
Shortly after William took his seat on the famous red sofa, presenter Graham Norton asked how he should address him during the interview.
“For the purposes of chat show land, how do I refer to you?” Norton asked.
William replied simply: “Whatever suits.”
When Norton suggested calling him William, the Prince of Wales responded: “Yeah. William. That’s good!”
The lighthearted exchange drew attention because William appeared entirely comfortable being addressed by his first name rather than his royal title.
Although there was no direct mention of Harry or Meghan during the conversation, royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths suggested the interaction could be interpreted differently.
Royal Commentator Suggests a Sly Dig at the Sussexes
Speaking on News24, The Mail on Sunday Editor-at-Large Charlotte Griffiths questioned whether William’s relaxed attitude towards royal titles could have been a subtle reference to Harry and Meghan.
Griffiths suggested the exchange reminded her of the Sussexes’ continued use of their royal titles and their children’s titles.
She specifically referred to the use of Princess Lilibet’s title in family celebrations.
The commentator also raised questions about Meghan’s use of her Duchess of Sussex title.
However, Griffiths acknowledged that she might be reading too much into the brief exchange.
She described William’s response as natural and praised his apparent lack of concern over how Norton addressed him.
There is no evidence that William intended his remarks as criticism of Harry or Meghan.
William Praised for Relaxed Television Appearance
Griffiths went on to praise William’s performance during the interview, suggesting he had clearly prepared for the appearance.
She said the Prince of Wales appeared comfortable on the sofa and had made a positive impression.
According to the commentator, William’s appearance had been well received, although other news stories competed for attention around the same time.
She also mentioned Andy Burnham’s appearance on Gogglebox, suggesting it had drawn some attention away from the Prince’s television interview.
Meanwhile, Griffiths noted that newspaper coverage was also focused on allegations involving Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle.
Despite the competing stories, she said William’s appearance had generated conversation among people she knew.
Allegations Involving Meghan’s Father Draw Attention
Around the time of William’s television appearance, Thomas Markle Sr, 82, faced allegations involving indecent images of children.
According to reports, Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, contacted authorities after allegedly discovering thousands of illicit images in four boxes at a former residence in Cebu, Philippines.
Thomas Markle Sr has strongly denied the accusations.
He described the claims as false and deeply distressing, insisting that any illegal material found had been planted.
He also offered to undergo a lie detector test to support his denial.
The allegations remain disputed, and the reports cited do not establish that Thomas Markle Sr committed any offence.
Meghan, 45, was reported to be deeply distressed by the accusations and said she had been aware of the allegations since 2018.
A Lighthearted Moment Becomes a Royal Talking Point
William’s appearance on The Graham Norton Show was primarily intended to highlight the Earthshot Prize and its environmental work.
However, his brief exchange about royal titles became an unexpected talking point following Griffiths’ interpretation.
While the commentator suggested the Prince’s response could be viewed as a subtle dig at the Sussexes, William himself made no such connection.
The moment instead showed the future King adopting a relaxed approach to a television interview, comfortably accepting the host’s suggestion to address him simply as William.
