“This doesn’t happen a lot,” Reba McEntire says at Urban Cowboy Bar in Nashville, Tennessee. “I’ve been in the business 50 years, and this never happened, because we were always on tour with the guys. We’ve only started doing more of the girl hangout stuff in the last five years. Man, what I would have given to have had that [coming up].”

McEntire is referring to the newest episode of ELLE’s Three Generations, where she’s joined by country music superstar Miranda Lambert and rising singer Ella Langley for an intimate conversation on songwriting, the boom of country music, and how women in the industry are finally coming together. “There wasn’t really a sisterhood because there wasn’t,” Lambert adds. “We were all out with on the road with men, and they were great, like Dierks [Bentley] was my brother back then. That’s why even when I first met you, [Reba], and you were so kind, I felt like I’d known you my whole life.”

“It feels good to have a sisterhood like this,” Lambert continues.

The three singers are marked by their countless milestones. McEntire remains a force, noted for her 25 No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, current sitcom Happy’s Place, and impactful mentorship of many young artists. Lambert has more Country Music Association Awards than any artist in history and a new single “Crisco,” and Langley currently has a hit with “Choosin’ Texas,” which is the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 by a female country artist. Langley’s second album Dandelion also took the top spot on the Billboard 200. Lambert and Langley have written together, and McEntire has been a longtime friend of Lambert as well.

“I think, you know, sometimes being a woman is a little tougher to get crawl up the chain,” Langley adds. ”But when we all do it together, you know what I mean? [We’re] lot more powerful in numbers.”
