Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported return to Britain has overshadowed almost everything else happening within the Royal Family this week, opening a new and potentially complicated chapter six years after the Sussexes left the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to spend an extended period in Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Yet significant questions remain unanswered, including exactly where the family will live, which schools the children will attend and how their security arrangements will be funded.

King Charles was reportedly informed about the decision only last week.

For the monarch, however, Harry’s increased presence in Britain could offer something deeply personal: more opportunities to see his younger son and develop a closer relationship with Archie and Lilibet.

Despite reports suggesting the former Duchess of York travelled to Portugal following the birth of Princess Eugenie’s fifth grandchild, Adelaide Brooksbank, the Daily Express reports that Sarah did not travel to Lisbon to meet her newest granddaughter.

She was last seen publicly in April at a luxury ski resort in Austria, while her current location has not been confirmed.

According to the report, Sarah has remained away from public view for months.

Her absence follows renewed attention surrounding her past connections to Jeffrey Epstein after material relating to the convicted sex offender was published by the US Department of Justice last year.

The Duchess of Edinburgh provided a considerably lighter royal story this week when she recalled an unforgettable evening with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during the 2016 Olympics.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sophie remembered trying to follow Team GB’s women’s hockey team while having dinner with the Royal Family at Balmoral.

A staff member who shared her enthusiasm for hockey kept providing score updates throughout dinner as Sophie’s nerves became increasingly obvious.

Eventually, the late Queen had enough.

“Oh, for goodness’ sake, just go,” Sophie recalled Elizabeth telling her.

That gave Sophie permission to rush into the library, where she watched the dramatic penalty shootout alongside Prince Philip.

“I think he was watching my reaction more than he was watching the television because I was literally living and breathing every moment,” Sophie recalled.

Even Queen Elizabeth eventually came in to watch the penalties — but the tension proved too much.

“She couldn’t cope with pressure. She had to take herself away again,” Sophie said.

It is an affectionate glimpse of private royal life at Balmoral, but this summer the atmosphere surrounding the family is very different.
