Kelly Clarkson Gives Sabrina Carpenter’s Please Please Please a Country Makeover Inspired by Dolly Parton

Kelly Clarkson has surprised viewers with another creative Kellyoke performance, transforming Sabrina Carpenter’s pop hit Please Please Please into a country-inspired rendition that immediately drew praise.
During a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Grammy-winning singer stepped away from the song’s familiar pop production and introduced a different arrangement, bringing out its country influences with her rich lower register and distinctive vocal rasp.
After the performance, Clarkson revealed that country legend Dolly Parton had inspired her interpretation of Carpenter’s chart-topping track.

Clarkson explained that she had imagined Please Please Please as a country song from the moment she first heard it.
“Ever since I heard this song, for some reason, I hear like Dolly Parton singing it as well,” she told the studio audience.
The singer said the melody naturally lent itself to country music, prompting her to ask her band to experiment with a new arrangement.
“For some reason, it lends itself to country for me, so I asked my band if we could make more of a country version of it because we have the amazing pop version already,” she explained.
Rather than attempting to recreate Carpenter’s original recording, Clarkson used the opportunity to explore the song from a different musical perspective.
The result highlighted how its melody and storytelling could work beyond the pop genre.
Viewers Praise Clarkson’s Country Vocals
The performance quickly attracted enthusiastic reactions, particularly from listeners impressed by Clarkson’s lower vocal tones.
One viewer wrote: “Omg. Her low tone and her raspiness fits so well and the fact she made it country. O my freaking God that’s so good.”
Another compared the arrangement to the country-pop sound of Olivia Newton-John during the 1970s.
“This song has always made me feel like Olivia Newton John could have sang it back when she was doing country,” the commenter explained.
They added that Clarkson’s interpretation reinforced their belief that Please Please Please could easily have worked as a classic country recording.
The response demonstrated the appeal of Clarkson’s ability to reinterpret familiar hits without losing what makes the original songs memorable.
Kelly Clarkson Thanks Sabrina Carpenter
Following her performance, Clarkson took a moment to acknowledge Carpenter’s songwriting and the versatility of Please Please Please.
“I love that song, and I love when a song is so good that you can kind of go into different genres with it,” she said.
She then thanked Carpenter directly for creating a song that allowed her to experiment with a different musical style.
“But thank you, Sabrina, for that song. Thank you for letting me sing it.”
Kellyoke Continues to Showcase Clarkson’s Versatility

Since launching The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2019, Clarkson has made Kellyoke one of its most recognisable segments.
The performances regularly feature her interpretations of country, rock, pop and soul recordings, often introducing familiar songs to audiences in unexpected ways.
Her ability to move comfortably between genres reflects a career that began with her historic victory on the first season of American Idol in 2002.
Since then, Clarkson has released 10 studio albums, including 2023’s Chemistry, while expanding into television and voice acting.
Her latest Sabrina Carpenter cover offers another example of why Kellyoke remains a popular part of her daytime show.
By bringing a touch of Dolly Parton-inspired country music to Please Please Please, Clarkson demonstrated how a familiar pop hit can take on an entirely different character without losing its original appeal.
