Lainey Wilson may have one of country music’s most recognizable voices, but teaching her husband Devlin “Duck” Hodges to sing is proving to be a very different challenge.

The country star gave fans another playful glimpse inside their marriage when she posted a video on Friday, September 18, attempting to turn the former NFL player into her newest duet partner.

Wilson had the guitar. She had the song ready. She even gave Hodges his own moment to jump in.

There was only one problem.

Duck wasn’t convinced he could sing it.

The video begins with Wilson playing guitar and singing her new song, “Phone, Wallet, Keys.”

Sitting alongside her husband, she encourages Hodges to join the performance.

Everything appears to be going according to plan until Wilson reaches the section she wants him to sing.

She gives him the cue.

Hodges immediately starts laughing and admits he simply can’t do it.

Rather than attempting the vocal part, he comes up with another contribution to their impromptu performance.

He’ll whistle instead.

For Wilson, the singing lesson may not have produced another country vocalist. For fans, however, Hodges’ response made the video even better.

Several agreed that Hodges’ decision to whistle rather than compete with his superstar wife might have been the correct choice.

“Stick with the whistling Duck, leave the singing to Lainey 😂,” one fan joked.

Another suggested he should return to one of his more familiar activities.

Wilson and Hodges have been together since 2021, although they initially kept their relationship largely away from public attention.

Hodges, a former NFL quarterback, retired from professional football in 2022 before moving into a career in real estate.

The couple finally made their public debut together at the ACM Awards in 2023, walking the red carpet side by side.

Their relationship reached another milestone in February 2025 when they announced their engagement through a collection of photographs from the proposal.

Wilson has previously explained that their busy schedules make intentionally setting aside time together particularly important.

“You have to definitely carve out the time,” she said, explaining that when a free day appears on her schedule, she makes a conscious effort to dedicate it to spending time with her partner.

Lainey and Duck tied the knot in Tennessee

Their relationship entered its biggest chapter on May 10, 2026, when Wilson and Hodges married.

The couple held their wedding ceremony and reception at Ruskin Cave in Dickson, Tennessee.

Since then, Wilson has continued sharing glimpses of their life together, often showing a much more relaxed and playful side than fans see when she is performing onstage.

The latest singing lesson fits perfectly into that pattern.

Rather than presenting a polished celebrity duet, Wilson simply picked up her guitar and tried to persuade her husband to sing along.

Hodges had other ideas.
