Miranda Lambert Finally Reveals What Really Happened in Her Infamous Chad Kroeger Bar Fight — 16 Years After the Rumors Began

For more than a decade, one particularly wild Miranda Lambert story has refused to disappear.
Back in 2010, reports circulated that the country star had become involved in a heated confrontation with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger during a night at a bar.
The story grew considerably more dramatic over time, with one persistent version claiming Lambert had actually punched Kroeger in the face.
Sixteen years later, Lambert has finally addressed the rumor herself.
And while she says the punch never happened, she admits the night wasn’t entirely innocent either.
Miranda Lambert Sets the Record Straight
Lambert appeared on The New York Times’ Popcast on Thursday, October 1, when co-host Joe Coscarelli saved one particularly uncomfortable question until the final minutes of their conversation.
He asked whether it was true that she had hit Kroeger in the face.
Lambert immediately admitted she was “nervous” about discussing the incident.
But she denied the most notorious version of the story.
She didn’t punch Kroeger.
Instead, Lambert revealed:
“I threw moonshine on his face. I did do that.”
The confession finally provides an answer to a rumor that has followed Lambert for years — although exactly what triggered the confrontation remains a mystery.
‘No One Was in Their Best State’

Lambert didn’t reveal what was said or done before the moonshine went flying.
She offered only a brief explanation of the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
“It was just a late night, and no one was in their best state,” she said.
But when asked whether the moment had simply been playful or mischievous, Lambert made clear that wasn’t the case.
Whatever happened between the two musicians, there appears to have been genuine tension involved.
And asked where things stand between them today, Lambert didn’t seem particularly concerned about repairing any lingering damage.
“I don’t know if we’re fine now, but I don’t care,” she said.
Blake Shelton Previously Hinted at the Incident
Lambert’s comments mark the first time she has publicly explained what happened that night.
Kroeger, according to the supplied report, has never publicly discussed the incident either.
But the story did briefly surface in 2014, when Lambert’s then-husband Blake Shelton spoke about her during a Rolling Stone cover story.
Shelton described how people would sometimes challenge Lambert while she was out at bars.
“One of them I don’t want to say the guy’s name, but he’s the lead singer of a very popular rock band,” Shelton said.
He offered another clue immediately afterward.
The man’s initials, Shelton said, were “C.K.”
For years, that anecdote helped keep speculation surrounding Lambert and Kroeger alive.
Now Lambert has finally supplied her side of the story.
There was a confrontation.
There was no punch.
There was, however, moonshine.
The Revelation Came as Lambert Entered a New Era
Interestingly, Lambert hadn’t appeared on the podcast primarily to revisit old bar stories.
She was there to promote Crisco, her new album released on Friday, October 2.
The 12-track record marks Lambert’s first release with MCA and introduces another musical evolution for the country star, blending her country foundation with elements of disco.
The album also includes two notable collaborations.
Ella Langley joins Lambert for “Snakeskin Boots,” while Chris Stapleton appears on “A Song To Sing.”
But amid a conversation about Lambert’s newest music, one question dragged her all the way back to a late night in 2010.
The answer finally killed one rumor while confirming that the underlying story wasn’t entirely fiction.
Miranda Lambert says she never punched Chad Kroeger in the face. But after 16 years of speculation, she has admitted that something really did fly across that bar — a splash of moonshine aimed directly at the Nickelback singer.
