THE CLOCK IS TICKING… One of Netflix’s most haunting crime thrillers is quietly preparing to disappear from the platform—and longtime viewers are urging everyone to watch it before it’s too late.

A Gillian Anderson thriller dubbed ‘very scary’ by fans is leaving Netflix.

But if you haven’t caught The Fall yet, you have until the end of the month to watch it on the streaming channel – and even if you don’t manage to see it before July 31, you don’t have to miss out.

First screened on BBC Two in 2013 and co-starring Jamie Dornan, The Fall is set in Belfast and follows Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Anderson), who is sent to investigate an unsolved murder in the city.

After more young women are murdered it soon becomes clear that a serial killer is responsible and the investigation becomes increasingly urgent as Gibson works to prevent another murder.

Dornan’s Paul Spector, a seemingly normal, family man, is behind the killings, and thus a cat and mouse game between him and Gibson begins.

The series was created and written by Allan Cubitt, who worked on Prime Suspect, and was an instant hit with critics. Since the first series was released, there have been two more.

Speaking about what attracted her to the role, Gillian previously said: “How good the writing was – Allan is a talented writer. I don’t know how he manages to infuse so much of each character within the scene and the dialogue without description; it comes out in their personalities and their actions which is a hard thing for writers to do.

“He just intrinsically knows how to do that so the characters are unique and individual. That was it first and foremost. As an actor, anytime you are told something was written with you in mind it adds to your ego, but also to the enticement of it. It makes you prick up your ears.”

Viewers were caught up by the drama from the start. One fan on IMDb dubbed it “very scary and dark”. They said: “Exceptionally well-written, directed, and acted. VERY dark and scary.”

A second said: “The best psychological thriller I’ve seen in ages. This series had me gripped from start to finish, and I couldn’t be happier that a second series has been green-lit.”

A third added: “A very intelligent and well written thriller!! Gillian Anderson is an excellent choice as lead detective in this series about her pursuit of a serial killer.”

Another commented: “Excellent combo of Prime Suspect and Red Riding trilogy. And note that both my nods to great crime thrillers were directed to British productions.”

While all three series have been screening on Netflix, viewers have now been informed that it will be leaving the platform on July 31. However, if you don’t get to finish it all by then, you can tune into BBC iPlayer which is also streaming all three series.

The Fall is streaming on Netflix until July 31 and can be watched on BBC iPlayer
