The Cycle of Love, directed by Orlando von Einsiedel unfolds in the 1970s and follows P.K. Mahanandia, a then–23-year-old Delhi-based artist who sets off on a 6,000 journey from India to Sweden to find true love.
In the trailer, which dropped on July 8 ahead of its New York City theater release at Angelika Film Center on Aug. 28, Mahanandia says as a child “a prophecy told that my future wife would come from far away land.”

Mahandia, who says he grew up poor, began sketching portraits of tourists to make money. It was then that he met Lotta Von Schedvin. According to the trailer, Von Schedvin told him that she’d return in August and when the summer month came and went he took matters into his own hands.
“I left behind everything I knew,” he says, and he rode thousands of miles on a bike to Sweden to find her.
While the film, directed by Oscar winner Orlando Von Einsiedel, features both Mahandia and Von Schedvin, actors Chirag Benedict Lobo and Mina Dale play the younger versions of the real-life subjects.

Upon the trailer’s release, Chopra Jonas took to Instagram to express her love for the film and its subjects.
“When I first heard the story of the extraordinary journey of @pkmahanandia across continents for love, I was immediately drawn in,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s one of those rare, almost unbelievable true stories that stays with you long after you hear it.”
She added, “At a time when stories rooted in truth and optimism feel especially meaningful, this film offers an invitation to escape, to connect, and to rediscover the joy of falling in love with cinema… and love itself.”

And the pair’s love story has stood the test of time. In May, Mahanandia posted a tribute to Von Schedvin, his “beloved wife, for her 71st birthday, sharing that the two had been together for more than 50 years.
Following its U.S. release, the film will be debut in the U.K. in September, Chopra Jonas wrote.
