“PEOPLE KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES.” The ACM Awards quickly spiraled into chaos after viewers began calling out a series of awkward hosting mistakes involving Shania Twain, triggering backlash online as technical problems, strange pacing, and uncomfortable live moments continued piling up throughout the broadcast. What should have been one of country music’s biggest nights slowly turned into an internet-wide meltdown as frustrated fans flooded social media accusing the show of feeling disorganized, tense, and completely off-track from start to finish. By the end of the ceremony, clips of Shania’s most uncomfortable moments were spreading everywhere online while viewers admitted they were watching less for the awards themselves and more to see what would go wrong next.

From this moment on… maybe someone other than Shania Twain should handle hosting the ACM Awards.

That’s what a lot of fans are saying after last night’s event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The show streamed live on Prime Video.

ACM Award Viewers Put Shania Twain on Blast: "Worst Host Y'all Ever Had" - Wide Open Country

Shania Twain Struggled Throughout the Night

In fairness to the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” singer, it was Twain’s first time hosting the ACM Awards. There were also audio issues all evening, which threatened to derail Lee Ann Womack’s comeback bid during her duet with Parker McCollum.

But Womack wasn’t the only one who was struggling. Twain’s opening monologue fell flat, opting to give readers a history of the Academy of Country Music rather than tell jokes and warm up the audience.

Then, Twain mispronounced Ella Langley’s first name (“Ella,” not “Elle”) before her performance last night. However, we’re certain that the “Choosin’ Texas” singer forgot all about it after she won her seventh award last night.

What Did People Say About Shania?

Fans didn’t hold back when critiquing Twain’s first go-round as host.

“Seriously, the worst host yall have ever had. Do better. Shania was horrid,” wrote one user.

Another added, “Omg. Shania is a horrible! The ACMs should have no host at all. Is this the best they could find?”

One fan insisted, “Please make it stop. It’s awful.”

“Shania Twain is so damned awkward, it’s funny to see,” shared one viewer. “Probably the most awkward host I’ve ever seen on an award show!”

Someone wondered if Twain was on something, saying that she sounded “like she took a xanax before coming to the stage.”

Here is a full list of last night’s winners. If your favorite artist went home empty-handed, we’re sorry. Just remember, it could have been worse. They could have been the host.
