Susanna Reid has shared that she and her co-star, Ed Balls, will be taking a lengthy break from Good Morning Britain. The pair are going on their summer break, leaving room for temporary replacements.

Taking to Instagram, the 55-year-old shared a snap showing that she was already in chill mode as she wore a pair of slippers in the studio. She explained to fans that she and Ed would be off air until September now as she wrote: “SHOES OFF, OUT OF OFFICE ON! Time for my summer break.” Susanna then shared that one of their colleagues is also leaving the ITV breakfast show completely, as she went on: “But also time to say goodbye to our wonderful Director @stuearl, who has been the champion of this programme for a decade. Thank you for everything, Stuart.”

Throwing a sly dig at Reform politician Robert Jenrick, the presenter continued: ” @edballs and I will be back September 1st after our travels. THANK YOU to our amazing viewers for watching and for contacting us and sharing your views – never a ‘waste of time’ being on this brilliant programme [wink emoji] and thanks to everyone on Team @gmb.”

It comes after the politician was caught in a very awkward hot-mic moment at the end of an interview with the duo on Wednesday morning.

Reform UK’s Treasury spokesman was heard branding his interview a “waste of time” while he was still on air.

During their chat, Robert had clashed with Ed, a former Labour cabinet minister, and Susanna over a £5million gift Nigel Farage received from a cryptocurrency billionaire.

During the combative interview, Ed asked: “You were reportedly warned a number of times that this was a breach of electoral law, hence this police investigation.

“What is the status of that police investigation? Are you cooperating? What do you think the outcome will be, and when will you know that stain on your reputation has been lifted?”

Robert replied: “There’s no stain on my reputation, Ed. This is a complete smear that’s been put about by the Tory party.”

As the interview wrapped up, Ed said, “Robert Jenrick, that is very clear, thank you very much indeed for joining us this morning.”

And then, as Susanna tried to move the programme along by letting viewers know what was still to come, Robert, who was no longer on the screen, could be heard saying: “Well, that was a waste of time.”

Ed quickly hit back as he said, “I think it wasn’t a waste of time. I think Robert Jenrick gave us very clear answers on the police investigation.

“It’s not a waste of time for him to make clear that he believes there’s no police investigation. So, it was good he came on the programme.”
