Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor ‘Wants Royal Role Back’ Despite Scandal and Recent Arrest
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reportedly pushing for a way back into royal life, with a source claiming the former prince believes he could once again be an asset to the Royal Family despite his dramatic fall from grace.
The 66-year-old has been largely sidelined from public royal life following years of controversy surrounding his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as well as his recent arrest.
Andrew was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was taken to a police station in Aylsham on his 66th birthday.
He has denied the allegation.
The development came after Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and ordered to leave Royal Lodge, bringing another extraordinary chapter in his relationship with the monarchy to an end.
King Charles III has previously insisted that “the law must take its course”.
Andrew now lives on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, away from the centre of royal life.
But according to an unnamed source, the former royal is far from accepting his current position quietly.
The source claimed Andrew is angry about being excluded from royal events and believes his experience and connections are being wasted.
“The fact he’s effectively been banished into seclusion and omitted from all social functions or big picture discussions is something that angers him greatly,” the source told The Examiner.
“He believes it’s wrong and foolish for the king to be wasting his expertise.”
Andrew previously served as a UK trade envoy between 2001 and 2011 under his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
That role placed him at the centre of Britain’s international business efforts, although his relationship with Epstein later cast a long shadow over his public career.
According to the source, Andrew has also become increasingly critical of the state of the Royal Family following the Queen’s death.
“He’s not shy in complaining that the family has gone to pieces in the wake of his mother’s death,” the source claimed.
“In his mind, Charles is out of his depth right now.”
The source also pointed to the reported tensions between Andrew and his nephew Prince William, as well as the continuing fallout surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
They claimed Andrew believes the situation demonstrates that the monarchy needs a different approach — and that he considers himself the person who could provide it.
“[Andrew] feels passionately that he’s the perfect person to step up and help in some capacity,” the source alleged, adding that he is actively “pushing” for such a role.
The claims come despite Andrew’s continuing removal from official royal duties and the wider public spotlight.
The source also alleged that Andrew would like considerably more practical support, including additional staff, improved accommodation and greater financial assistance.
Meanwhile, another blow has reportedly emerged over one of his remaining links to Britain’s historic establishment.
The City of London Corporation is said to be developing a new process that could eventually allow Andrew’s last remaining honour to be removed.
Andrew currently retains the Freedom of the City of London, an ancient honour he received in 2012 through his late father, Prince Philip.
The corporation previously concluded that there was no existing legal mechanism allowing the honour to be revoked after Andrew lost his royal titles.
Now, however, officials are reportedly looking at whether a new process could change that.
For Andrew, the prospect of returning to royal duties therefore appears increasingly remote.
Yet according to the latest claims, the former prince remains convinced that his experience could still be put to use — and is determined to make sure he is not forgotten.
