Prince William shares his thoughts on Christopher Nolan after Prince Harry’s speech is interrupted in New York
Prince William has opened up about his admiration for filmmaker Christopher Nolan, speaking about his favorite films just as his brother, Prince Harry, was dealing with an unexpected technical problem during a speech in New York.
The Prince of Wales discussed his love of cinema during a conversation with Thomas Duke, the content creator behind Stepping Through Film. The pair looked through film journals and talked about some of William’s favorite movies and directors.
Prince William reveals his admiration for Christopher Nolan
During the conversation, William made it clear that Christopher Nolan is one of the filmmakers whose work he particularly enjoys.
“I’m a massive Christopher Nolan fan. Yeah, I absolutely love his films,” William said.
He also spoke enthusiastically about Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, which he said he watched during the summer.
“I watched it recently this summer. I thought it was fantastic. I love the way his characters kind of brew a bit,” William said.
The Prince of Wales explained that he is drawn to the darker and more layered elements of Nolan’s storytelling.
“He has always a slight darker edge to his characters, which I really like,” William said. He added that some films can feel “a bit too frivolous” or “a bit too sort of shallow,” while he appreciates the greater depth and darker tone Nolan brings to his movies.
The Odyssey, written and directed by Nolan, was released in 2026 and stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
The Dark Knight made an early impression on William
When asked about his earliest experience watching a Christopher Nolan film, William pointed to The Dark Knight.
“The one that left the biggest impression on me early on was The Dark Knight. I absolutely love that,” he said.
William went on to praise the way Nolan reshaped the Batman franchise, saying he believed the film “completely revolutionised the Batman franchise for another generation.”
He also singled out the movie’s darker atmosphere as one of the qualities he particularly enjoyed.
William said his own interactions with Nolan have generally been brief. He added that he would like the opportunity to spend more time with the filmmaker and learn from his experience and knowledge.
Prince Harry’s New York speech interrupted by technical failure
William’s comments about film came shortly after Prince Harry encountered a very different kind of problem in New York.
On Wednesday, September 23, the Duke of Sussex appeared at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York City, where he spoke about artificial intelligence, social media and the impact of technology on children.
Harry’s address was interrupted when the teleprompter stopped working. The technical problem left him unable to continue with his prepared remarks, forcing him to pause and eventually leave the stage.
As the screen failed, Harry looked toward the teleprompter and asked, “And that’s it?”
The moment brought his speech to an unexpected halt. Reports said Harry later returned to the stage, roughly 40 minutes after leaving, to complete his address.
When he returned, Harry made light of what had happened, joking that AI had “got into” his speech before continuing his remarks about the risks technology can pose to children.
The interruption came during an address focused on the growing influence of AI and social media, with Harry warning about their potential effects on young people and families.
While Harry’s appearance in New York centered on technology and its impact on children, William’s latest comments offered a glimpse into a different interest: his enthusiasm for film and his longstanding appreciation for Christopher Nolan’s work.
