Prince Harry could land major Amazon deal for Invictus Games, with Meghan Markle appearance reportedly expected
Prince Harry could be in line for a major sponsorship agreement with Amazon as preparations intensify for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
The 42-year-old will host the next edition of the international sporting event from July 10 to 17, 2027. Amazon is understood to have agreed sponsorship terms, while Meghan Markle is reportedly expected to make an appearance as part of the event.
The reported deal comes at an important time for the Games, which is said to require a £20 million cash injection to meet the costs of next year’s competition.
Amazon enters the picture
The Invictus Games were founded by Prince Harry in 2014, when he was still a working member of the Royal Family. The event brings together wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans, using adaptive sport as part of their recovery and rehabilitation.
For the Birmingham Games, organisers expect to welcome 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, along with their families, from 25 nations.
Competitors will take part in 12 adaptive sports, with the event designed to support recovery while highlighting the resilience of those taking part.
The reported Amazon partnership would provide a significant new source of commercial support for the Games. Amazon’s involvement would also put the company alongside an event closely associated with Harry, while its streaming arm Prime Video competes directly with Netflix, the platform that has previously worked with Harry and Meghan.
A £20 million funding requirement
The reported agreement comes as the Birmingham 2027 organisers work to secure the money needed to stage the event.
The Games are understood to need around £20 million to cover next year’s competition. The funding challenge became more significant after aircraft manufacturer Boeing, previously a major backer of the Invictus Games, decided not to renew its sponsorship after the most recent event.
Sources quoted in reports said continuing with the Games would be expensive and that Amazon had been interested in becoming involved.
One person familiar with the situation told The Sun that an Amazon agreement would provide a major boost to the Invictus Games and Harry. The source also pointed to Amazon’s existing support for veterans, including employment programmes.
The source added that the Games are a substantial and expensive undertaking, while noting the significance of Amazon’s position as a major rival to Netflix.
The reported sponsorship has not been presented by the organisers as a standalone replacement for public or charitable funding. Birmingham 2027 says the Games are supported through a combination of UK Government underwriting, commercial partnerships, charitable support and in-kind contributions.
Meghan’s potential appearance
The reported sponsorship is also notable because Meghan Markle is expected to appear at the 2027 Games.
Her involvement would bring additional attention to an event in Birmingham that marks the Invictus Games’ return to the UK for the first time since the inaugural competition in London in 2014. The Birmingham edition is scheduled to run from July 10 to July 17, 2027.
Harry has remained closely involved with the Games since establishing them more than a decade ago. The Birmingham event is being organised around the same central purpose: giving wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans an international platform through sport while supporting their recovery.
Meghan has previously attended the Invictus Games alongside Harry, including the 2018 and 2023 editions.
Birmingham prepares for 2027
Birmingham was selected to host the 2027 Invictus Games after competing against bids from six cities. The event will be centred on the National Exhibition Centre, with the organisers planning for the sports, ceremonies and accommodation to be brought together at the site.
The Games’ official website says Birmingham 2027 will bring together 550 competitors from 25 nations for 12 adaptive sports.
The event also has wider backing beyond commercial sponsorship. In June 2026, the UK Government confirmed that it had agreed to underwrite £26 million of costs as a contingency to ensure the Games could be delivered if sufficient commercial sponsorship was not secured.
That funding arrangement sits alongside the organisers’ efforts to attract commercial partners and charitable support as the Games approach.
Organisers welcome new partnerships
An Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 spokesman said the organisation was pleased with the partnerships taking shape ahead of the event.
“Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 is excited about the partnerships taking shape as we build towards the Games next year,” the spokesman said.
The organisation added that it had already announced several partners and expected to welcome more businesses and organisations that shared its ambitions for the Games.
“Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 is supported through a combination of UK Government underwriting, commercial partnerships, charitable support and in-kind contributions and will continue to secure additional income as we move towards the Games,” the spokesman said.
The commercial push is continuing. Birmingham 2027 announced Fisher House Foundation as an official partner on September 24, supporting the Family and Friends Programme, while other partnerships have also been announced in the months leading up to the Games.
For Harry, the Birmingham event will bring the Invictus Games back to the country where the movement began in 2014. For organisers, the immediate focus remains on securing the partnerships and funding required to stage the seven-day competition for hundreds of competitors and their families in July 2027.
