Meghan & Harry’s Cosy Cotswolds Pub Photos Come Under Fire — And Insiders Claim Meghan Wanted Them Seen For One Very Specific Reason

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Cotswolds Pub Outing Draws Claims It Was Carefully Planned

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s affectionate appearance at a Cotswolds pub has attracted fresh scrutiny, with claims that the couple’s public display was intended to communicate a particular message.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were photographed holding hands as they arrived at the Falkland Arms near Great Tew in Oxfordshire on Thursday, October 1. The outing was their first public appearance together in Britain since their return to the UK with their children on August 26, according to reports.

The photographs, published by The Sun, quickly drew attention because Harry and Meghan appeared relaxed and affectionate as they walked into the pub.

What Harry and Meghan ordered

The couple reportedly stopped for lunch at the Oxfordshire pub, where they were said to have behaved much like any other customers.

Meghan chose a £18.25 portion of gluten-free beer-battered haddock and chips, served with mushy peas and tartare sauce.

Harry opted for a £17.95 chicken, ham and leek pie accompanied by seasonal greens, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy.

A source quoted by The Sun said the couple were treated like any other visitors during their time at the pub.

“Everyone here gets the royal treatment – it doesn’t matter who you are,” the source said. “We’re lucky to get lots of different people visiting us, and everyone is treated like a local. When they visited, Harry and Meghan just acted like locals.”

The low-key nature of the visit contrasted with the attention generated by the photographs outside the pub.

Claims the photographs were no accident

The images have since prompted claims that the couple’s appearance was deliberately arranged rather than the result of an unexpected encounter with a photographer.

Celebrity journalist Rob Shuter discussed the photographs in his Substack newsletter, Naughty But Nice, saying sources close to Harry and Meghan believed the opportunity was not accidental.

One source claimed Meghan had played a role in how the couple were presented publicly, saying: “This has Meghan’s fingerprints all over it.”

The same source alleged that Meghan understands how publicity and photographs can shape a public message, adding that the couple “wanted to be seen together.”

Another media source questioned how the photographer managed to capture such clear images of the couple.

The source said the pair were holding hands in a position where they were “completely unobstructed and perfectly positioned”, describing the circumstances as evidence, in their view, of a planned photo opportunity.

Those claims remain attributed to sources rather than established fact. The available reports do not independently confirm that Harry and Meghan arranged for the photographs to be taken.

The photographs have nevertheless generated plenty of reaction, with some critics online questioning whether the scene was spontaneous.

The timing of Meghan’s latest As Ever update

The pub outing came as Meghan was also drawing attention to a new social media post from her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

On Sunday, October 4, the brand shared a photograph of the Duchess in a kitchen, where she was shown stirring a pot on a gas stove. Meghan wore a black outfit with a black-and-white checked apron.

The kitchen appeared different from the one most familiar to followers of her previous content, although the location of the photograph has not been independently confirmed.

The accompanying caption offered a preview of what may be coming next from the brand:

“The season of giving is almost here, and we have a few surprises in store…”

As Ever prepares for the festive season

The post arrived shortly after Meghan unveiled As Ever’s first chocolate Advent calendar, priced at £112.

The calendar contains 24 chocolates and was inspired by Meghan’s former Montecito home and garden. The brand has also been preparing a wider Holiday Collection.

According to The Independent, As Ever’s “Holiday Collection: Chapter One” is due to launch on October 6 under the tagline “Merriment in the Making”. The collection includes a wicker hostess basket containing two scented candles, three jams, three types of herbal tea and a pot of flower sprinkles.

The range is also set to include three chocolate bars in Ginger Lemon, Lavender Honey and Hibiscus Rose flavours, along with two sets of playing cards known as the “Keepsake Double-Deck Parlour Card Set”. Prices for the playing cards had not yet been announced in the reports.

The Advent calendar, meanwhile, features flavours connected with As Ever’s existing products, including strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and orange marmalade spreads, as well as chocolate incorporating Meghan’s flower sprinkles. The calendar was created with Los Angeles chocolatier Compartés.

The combination of the couple’s affectionate pub appearance and Meghan’s latest brand teaser has therefore placed both their personal lives and professional projects in the spotlight at the same time.

For now, the claim that the Cotswolds photographs were deliberately arranged remains an allegation from unnamed sources. What is established is that Harry and Meghan were photographed holding hands outside the Falkland Arms on October 1, while Meghan’s As Ever account separately teased more festive announcements just days later.
