Prince Harry to join Richard Branson at London charity evening supporting Ukraine

Prince Harry is set to take a prominent role at a major charity fundraiser for Ukraine in London, appearing alongside billionaire Sir Richard Branson just weeks after the King publicly reiterated that the prince and Meghan remain private citizens.

The event, United For Freedom, will take place at the Imperial War Museum in London on October 1, bringing together 120 guests for a black-tie evening designed to raise money for causes supporting people affected by the war in Ukraine.

Harry, who has spoken publicly in support of Ukraine, is expected to be one of the evening’s main attractions.

Organisers say they are particularly pleased to have Harry involved.

“Prince Harry has always been vocal in his support for Ukraine, so we’re so excited that he’s on board,” an event representative said, describing the fundraiser as an “incredible evening of fundraising.”

The organisers also indicated that Harry’s participation would be an important part of the evening, while adding that Meghan’s attendance would be an added bonus if she decided to come.

“We’re excited to be a part of the duke’s next chapter in the UK. We love his charitable spirit,” the source said.

The 120 attendees will each be expected to donate £1,000 to attend the black-tie gathering, with two funds set to benefit from the evening’s fundraising.

One of them is Superhumans, a charity supported by Harry as well as Sting and Bear Grylls.

The fund has so far raised $130 million (£96 million), with the money helping to pay for 2,609 operations for people maimed during the war in Ukraine, as well as 2,240 prosthetic limbs.

An evening of charity, diplomacy and networking

The event is expected to combine fundraising with an opportunity for guests to meet figures involved in business, diplomacy and public life.

The evening will include remarks from honoured guests, followed by an opportunity for attendees to network and make new connections.

That combination of charitable work and private networking would be unusual at an official royal engagement, given the different expectations surrounding members of the Royal Family.

The fundraising will also include an auction, with one of the prizes offering a week at Richard Branson’s Moskito Island.

The private island has three villas and can accommodate up to 22 people.

Harry and Meghan, meanwhile, have not offered their Tuscan-style mansion in Montecito as an auction prize. The property, which they still own, has 13 and a half bathrooms.

Instead, Harry is donating a copy of his memoir, Spare.

Kelly Osbourne: I’m looking for fun, not love

Kelly Osbourne has said she is not looking for a new relationship following the breakdown of her engagement to former Slipknot musician Sid Wilson earlier this year.

The 41-year-old television star spoke about her outlook at the 2026 National Television Awards at London’s O2 Arena, where she appeared in a £2,985 Vivienne Westwood tartan off-the-shoulder Chichi gown.

“Love isn’t something I’m looking for right now. That’s for sure,” she said.

Osbourne said she is now focused on having fun and rediscovering herself after the end of her relationship.

“I’m looking for fun now. It has taken me a little bit to find myself, and this new version of me,” she said.

Her appearance at the awards ceremony was also tinged with sadness. The BBC documentary Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, which followed the final three years of her late father Ozzy Osbourne’s life, was nominated for an award.

For Kelly, that made the occasion bittersweet.

Paloma Faith is still in therapy after Celebrity Traitors

Almost a year after appearing on Celebrity Traitors, Paloma Faith says she is still dealing with the psychological effects of taking part in the reality competition.

The 45-year-old singer was the show’s first contestant to be eliminated after being “murdered” by her friend Alan Carr.

Despite the support available to contestants, Faith said the experience was far more intense than she had anticipated.

“I’m still in therapy,” she said at the National Television Awards, where Celebrity Traitors won Best Reality Competition.

Faith joked about the amount of time she has spent dealing with the aftermath.

“I was the shortest-lived person with the longest time in therapy,” she said.

She had expected the programme to be little more than an entertaining experience and admitted that she now wished she had watched the show before agreeing to take part.

She recalled being told by producers that she should have seen the programme beforehand. Looking back, she said she wished she had followed that advice.

Robert Harris admits AI can be unsettling

Even bestselling author Robert Harris has found himself impressed, and slightly unnerved, by artificial intelligence.

At the London launch party for his Roman-era novel Agrippa, Harris described an experiment he conducted with an AI system.

As a joke, he asked it to produce a parody of the opening of a Robert Harris novel.

The response arrived within five seconds.

Harris said the result was alarmingly accurate in capturing the kind of writing he might have produced himself.

Gina Yashere criticises Andi Peters’ response

This Morning presenter Andi Peters received widespread public sympathy after Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes used a racial slur while questioning his ethnicity during an appearance on the ITV programme the previous week.

Comedian Gina Yashere, however, took a very different view of Peters’ response.

Yashere criticised what she described as his passive reaction to the incident in a video posted online.

“That reaction was on brand for Andi Peters,” she said.

Yashere went further, saying: “I don’t think he’s known that he’s black for at least the last 35 years.”

She said her opinion was informed by an encounter she claimed to have witnessed at the ITV studios.

According to Yashere, she was taking part in a talent show when she walked through the ITV studios with black friends and family members. They encountered Peters, whom they all admired.

Yashere said she believed Peters moved away from the group particularly quickly and that the incident had stayed with her.

“I never forgot that,” she said.

A representative for Peters has been contacted for comment.

Earl of Devon prepares Powderham Castle kitchen ahead of wedding

Meanwhile, the Earl of Devon is making changes at his historic family home ahead of his wedding to Jemima Hannon.

Charles Courtenay, 51, has applied for listed-building consent to install a bespoke family kitchen at Powderham Castle in Devon, the family’s magnificent ancestral residence.

The Grade I-listed castle dates back to the 14th century.

The plans seek to convert the castle’s existing private dining room into a more functional domestic kitchen.

The proposed work comes after Courtenay announced his engagement to Jemima in March, following the end of his 18-year marriage to former Baywatch actress AJ Langer, 52.

When announcing his engagement, the earl said he was “delighted to unite their families.”

With the proposed changes at Powderham Castle, that family union may soon have an important new setting: the kitchen table.
