Cristiano Ronaldo’s choice to keep his wedding to Georgina Rodríguez almost completely out of the public eye has prompted fresh questions after a Portuguese television presenter claimed that even people in his immediate family may have had little to no warning that the ceremony was about to take place.

The claim follows the release of the couple’s marriage certificate, which showed that Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings Hugo, Elma and Katia were absent when Ronaldo and Rodríguez married at their home in Cascais on August 11. The intimate civil ceremony was attended only by four witnesses and the couple’s five children.

‘30 seconds beforehand’

Portuguese presenter Cristina Ferreira made the extraordinary claim while discussing the absence of Ronaldo’s family on the TVI programme Dois às 10, according to The Sun.

“It will cause a lot of problems because the family wasn’t present,” Ferreira said. She then suggested that Ronaldo’s relatives might not have known about the wedding until moments before it began.

“And they shouldn’t even have known,” she said. “Or if they did know, it was 30 seconds beforehand.”

Ferreira’s remarks are an allegation, not confirmation from Ronaldo or anyone in his family. Her co-host, Cláudio Ramos, also urged viewers to be careful about reaching conclusions based solely on what has been seen publicly.

“I really hope that what we said here, which had to do with the impressions we get from what exists on social media, did not actually cause sadness in the family, that things were not as they apparently seem,” Ramos said.

Ronaldo’s mother was not at the ceremony

The comments came after Jornal de Notícias obtained and published the couple’s marriage certificate, offering the first detailed information about who attended the ceremony.

The document identifies Miguel Paixão, Ronaldo’s longtime friend, Ivana Rodríguez, Georgina’s sister, and Spanish jeweller José Rodríguez Sangil and his wife Mónica González Martínez as the four witnesses.

Ronaldo’s mother and his three siblings were not listed among those present.

Their absence is especially striking because Dolores had publicly appeared to support the marriage after Ronaldo and Rodríguez revealed the news. She responded to her son’s Instagram post featuring their wedding rings with a heart emoji.

There is consequently no public evidence from Dolores herself suggesting that she opposed the marriage. Ferreira’s comments, however, have raised another possibility: that the wedding was organised so discreetly that even Ronaldo’s family may have learned about it only moments before it happened.

The wedding was deliberately kept small

Ronaldo and Rodríguez married at 1:30pm on August 11 at their mansion in the exclusive Quinta da Marinha area of Cascais. A registrar travelled from Porto to conduct the ceremony.

Before the wedding, the couple had provided the public with almost no dependable details about their plans. At one point, reports even led hundreds of fans and journalists to Funchal Cathedral in Madeira after incorrect claims circulated that Ronaldo would marry there.

Instead, Ronaldo and Rodríguez quietly married in Cascais and revealed the news only afterwards, sharing photographs of their wedding rings alongside the caption “C❤️G.”
