WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – West Vigo Middle and High School held a big “welcome home” celebration Monday for Richard Goodall.
Goodall, whose singing talent has him going to the semi-final round of America’s Got Talent, works at the school as a custodian.
He returned to the school Monday and was met with cheers from students, faculty, and staff.
“The main takeaway of all this is everybody coming together for one thing. That’s what music does. At the end of the day, everybody coming together in one accord and having a good time,” said Goodall.
He said his message to the students is that they too can accomplish their dreams. Students say seeing Goodall’s success has inspired them.
“I just think it’s really amazing that he just came from being a janitor and now he’s a superstar,” said 8th Grader Sophia Scully.
“I am in the theater and seeing somebody singing like that, it just really motivates me to push to be the best that I can be,” said 8th Grader Molly Williams.
Over the next few weeks, Goodall will be getting ready for his next song. He won’t be back on the show until the second week of September.
