Happy memories of their time together were evoked by a heartwarming reunion between Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson on her talk show on October 19, 2022. Their old show pianist, Michael Orland, joined the two strong voices, setting the stage for an unplanned musical moment.
Given their combined skill, it was the ideal opportunity to wow the audience with an enthralling duet.
Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson gathered around the piano and stunned the audience with a magnificent performance of the beloved aria “Nessun Dorma” without any prior practice or operatic training. The audience was astounded by their spontaneous performance, which displayed their vocal skill and capacity to perform even the most difficult pieces.
Their performance continued with a fun twist. Both Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson reminisced about their first auditions on American Idol—Jennifer sang an Aretha Franklin song, and Adam went with a Queen hit.
To mix things up, they decided to swap artists. Jennifer took on Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” hitting higher notes with each line. Meanwhile, Adam showed his soulful side by performing Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”
The audience couldn’t contain their excitement as the singers delivered flawless performances as they cheered and applauded. Online reactions were equally enthusiastic, with viewers expressing awe over both artists’ impressive vocal abilities and range.
One fan commented, “Jennifer Hudson has a beautiful talent!! And Adam … there’s really no voice that compares. Always so gorgeous.”
Another added, “Two all time great singers, a rock singer and an R&B singer doing opera with no rehearsal and having to pick up the key as it is being played. And they can do that?!! Wow.”
They Sang to a Precise Classic Duet
Subsequently, Lambert recalled performing “Nessun Dorma” with Queen on one of their tour stops in Italy. Apparently, he was singing the song during rehearsals when the British rock band unexpectedly proposed to perform the duet live in their concert.

“So, I just started singing it impromptu in rehearsal, and he [Brian May] just started playing and accompanying me,” he said. “It was this moment that happened, and we all said, ‘Let’s just do it tonight.’”
The EGOT holder didn’t let the opportunity slip and asked Lambert if they could sing the classic together. The timing was even more perfect because Michael Orland, former American Idol arranger, was present to serve as pianist.
The duo began belting the technically demanding melody, propelling Lambert to comment, “This key is really high!”
Short after the performance, Hudson joked about having to sing the more comfortable parts of the song.
“He says, ‘Jennifer, this key is so high!’ I’m sorry, but this show is for me, baby,” she said.
The talk show host expressed her amusement over Lambert’s vocal range, describing it as “insane.” Indeed, this dramatic classic has proven the singer’s impressive singing skills.
