Make no mistake: Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress at the Oscars was no fashion (g)oops.
After the Marty Supreme actress turned heads on the 2026 Oscars red carpet for wearing a risqué gown that appeared to be completely open from the side, fans are learning about the true design of the dress—including its hidden see-through pants.
Indeed, Gwyneth’s floor-length ivory Giorgio Armani Privé gown appeared to be a normal dress from the front. But when the 53-year-old turned to the side, the dress featured wide slits that went up to her armpits and exposed her entire side profile. Some even assumed Gwyneth was suffering a “wardrobe malfunction” due to the open sidings.
However, it turns out that the design was more than meets the eye. Not only was Gwyneth’s side covered with nude mesh panels, but the Glee alum was also wearing an invisible pair of nude tulle pants decorated with crystal embellishments.

And though the pants weren’t very visible from the red carpet, a video of Gwyneth leaving the Oscars clearly shows the tulle fabric around her legs as she made her way down the stairs.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Gwyneth’s style was a topic of discussion during awards season. After all, it was just two weeks ago that the Goop founder got fans talking after appearing on stage at the 2026 Actor Awards with only one earring.
The Shakespeare in Love star was wearing a pair of eye-catching turquoise Belperron earrings earlier at the awards show, but when she took the stage with her Marty Supreme costars to present the film’s highlight reel, only one earring was present. Luckily, the jewelry wasn’t permanently misplaced, and Gwyneth was later shown in the telecast with the full set dangling from her ears.
And though her fashion has been noteworthy, it’s Gwyneth’s return to acting that really has fans talking.

After going on a temporary hiatus, the actress—who shares kids Apple, 21, and Moses, 19, with ex Chris Martin, and is stepmom to husband Brad Falchuk’s kids Isabella, 21, and Brody, 19, whom he shares with ex Suzanne Bukinik—returned to play Kay Stone in Marty Supreme.
For Gwyneth, it was a decision she didn’t necessarily anticipate—but couldn’t resist passing up.
“I knew this would be worthwhile,” she said in her Variety and CNN Actors on Actors conversation in December. “This felt like the movies we used to make in the ‘90s.”
