Sheinelle Jones Reveals Why She’ll Be Away From Today Again
Sheinelle Jones isn’t heading straight back to New York after her Emmy weekend in Los Angeles. Instead, the Today co-host has another NBC project waiting for her — and it means viewers will have to wait a little longer to see her back in Studio 1A.
Jones revealed the reason for her upcoming absence during the Tuesday, September 15, episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle, while joining Jenna Bush Hager remotely from Los Angeles.

Sheinelle’s Emmy Weekend Isn’t Over Just Yet
Jones spent the beginning of the week in Los Angeles covering the 2026 Emmys, bringing viewers interviews and highlights from the blue carpet.
On Tuesday, she spoke with Bush Hager and guest co-host Benny Blanco about the experience.
“I don’t know if you could tell, but we had a lot of fun,” Jones said, while also telling Blanco that Selena Gomez’s dress was one of her favorites from the event.
Bush Hager, however, was ready for her regular co-host to come home.
“Sheinelle, you looked beautiful. It looked like you had a blast. You did an incredible job,” she said before jokingly asking Jones if she could get to the airport and fly back to New York immediately.
But Jones had other plans.

Jones Has Another NBC Show to Film
Rather than returning directly to Today, Jones explained that she will remain in Los Angeles to work on Wild Child, the NBC Saturday morning series she has hosted since its premiere in 2021.
“I am actually going to do — I do a Saturday morning show called Wild Child. We are about to go tape 14 episodes,” Jones revealed.
Bush Hager immediately reacted with a playful, “No, thank you!”
Wild Child follows animal families and explores the relationships between parents and their young, as well as the challenges young animals face while growing up and surviving in the wild. The series premiered on NBC in January 2021 and has continued across multiple seasons.
The show’s sixth season also continued airing in 2026, with episodes featuring Jones exploring animal families and their environments.

When Will Sheinelle Return to Today?
Jones did not give a specific date for her return to Today, nor did she say when the new Wild Child episodes will air.
Her absence has already led to a rotating lineup at the Jenna & Sheinelle desk. Savannah Guthrie joined Bush Hager on Monday, September 14, while Blanco stepped in as guest co-host on Tuesday.
Jones’ Emmy assignment also gave her the chance to interview a long list of stars, including Jackie Tohn, Noah Kahan, Adam Brody, Noah Wyle, Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Allison Janney, Megan Stalter, Marcello Hernández, Cheryl Ladd, Alan Cumming, Steve Carell, Harrison Ford, LL Cool J, Sally Field, Dakota and Elle Fanning, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
After the Emmys, Jones shared a behind-the-scenes look at her experience on Instagram, admitting that major interviews can bring plenty of nerves before the cameras roll. Once it was time to work, however, she said she was able to let go and enjoy the night with her team.
For now, Today viewers will have to wait a little longer for Jones’ return — but her absence comes with an exciting reason: she has 14 new Wild Child episodes to film.
