Craig Melvin Takes Fans Inside His ‘Hair Journey’ as He Buzzes the Longest Style He’s Had in 30 Years

Craig Melvin is taking fans along for the ride as he makes an update to his personal style.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Today co-anchor posted a behind-the-scenes look at his recent hair transformation, which he underwent after his curls had grown to the longest length they’d been in 30 years. “This was encouraged by my longtime barber DJ Fresh,” Melvin told fans in the clip on Instagram. “So let’s see what happens.”

The video showed the broadcast journalist, 47, before and after his cut, which was texturized using a twist racket.

Once the look was complete, Melvin said to the camera, “Should we keeping growing it out or should we cut it back down?” His barber added that the hairstyle makes Melvin look “younger,” but he still asked his fans to weigh in.

“Keep growing it out or go back to what it used to look like?” asked Melvin, who added, “It’s getting long. I might do cornrows or dreads.”

Melvin’s change comes after he took some time away from Today to enjoy a family vacation shortly after a security breach at 30 Rockefeller Center that allegedly involved an intruder confronting and yelling racial slurs at Melvin on July 16.

Ten days later on July 26, Melvin’s wife Lindsay Czarniak shared snapshots on Instagram from their getaway to Hilton Head Island in his home state of South Carolina. The couple was accompanied by their kids, Delano, 12, and Sybil, 9.

One photo showed the family of four enjoying beach time while additional snapshots showed Melvin spending time with his extended relatives.

In the spring, Melvin took a short break from the cameras. During his time off, he revealed that there had been an update with his appearance — new facial hair. With an April 20 Instagram post, he revealed to fans that he had gotten “end of vacation” scruff, which his youngest kid had some thoughts on.

“My daughter wants me to post what I look like at the end of vacation week with no shaving and hair care. She’s not on IG bc she’s so young but seems to understand social media shaming nonetheless,” he wrote.
