David Beckham BOOED by Argentina fans as England legend pops up on screen ahead of World Cup semi-final
SIR DAVID BECKHAM was ruthlessly BOOED by Argentina fans ahead of England’s crushing World Cup semi-final defeat.
Becks and his family were among a host of big names in attendance at the Atlanta Stadium – but were left gutted at a horror 2-1 injury time defeat.

And he found himself on the receiving end of a chorus of BOOS after one of the main camera-people put him up on the big screen before kick-off.
The booing of Beckham, England‘s third all-time leading appearance holder, divided viewers back home.
One wrote on X: “Fans shouldn’t disrespect football legends like Beckham.
“At least he accords some respect.”
Another said: “They boo Beckham like he personally stole the World Cup from them.
“Football memories never die. 😭”
And another said: ” What would you expect?
“It’s Argentina vs England. Not club matters but [the] national team.”
One remarked: “Believe it or not, Beckham is not universally liked just because he’s English and famous.”
The boos for Becks from the Argentines weren’t surprising given his history with the nation.
Beckham, of course, was famously sent off in the sides’ last-16 clash at France ’98 for a petulant kick which grazed Diego Simeone, whose son Giuliano STARTED the game.
Becks’ moment of madness, which made him a pariah, led to Glenn Hoddle‘s side suffering a 4-3 shootout loss.
The former Manchester United winger bore no ill will towards Simeone when the sides met four years later in the Group stage of South Korean and Japan ’02.

He shook Simeone’s hand before the match, in which he bagged a redemption-earning winner from the penalty spot.
And in a further testament to letting bygones be bygones, Becks had the Atletico Madrid gaffer appear in his hit 2023 Netflix docuseries
The pair, 51 and 56 respectively, ran into one another during Argentina’s last 32 tie with Cape Verde.
Beckham shared a snap of himself and his former rival on his Instagram page.
His accompanying caption read: “Bumped into an old friend in Miami… @simeone.”
Becks, like the rest of the nation, would have been left gutted at the result in the semi.
Anthony Gordon had given the Three Lions the lead but England were pushed back by Argentina as time wore on.
Enzo Fernandez eventually scored the equaliser with a long-range effort, before Lautaro Martinez broke English hearts with a 92nd-minute winner.
