Savannah Guthrie Makes Emotional Plea for Help Finding Her Missing Mom Nancy

Savannah Guthrie used an emotional moment on the Today show Tuesday to renew her family’s plea for help finding her mother, Nancy Guthrie, more than seven months after her disappearance.

The longtime NBC journalist said she was deeply moved by actress Allison Janney, who took a moment after winning at the 2026 Emmy Awards to speak about Nancy and the pain Savannah’s family has endured.

Janney’s comments, Savannah said, gave her another opportunity to remind the public that her family is still searching for answers.

During the Sept. 15 broadcast of Today, Savannah, 54, and guest co-host Willie Geist discussed the 2026 Emmy Awards, including Janney’s emotional comments in the press room after her win.

Janney had just collected her eighth Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Diplomat when a reporter mentioned the compassion and concern she had shown toward Savannah and her family following Nancy’s disappearance.

“I honestly can say I think about her every day and think about the loss and what Savannah and her family are going through,” Janney said.

She added that the situation had deeply affected her and said she believed she was not alone, with people across the country thinking about Savannah and her family.

Geist described Janney’s remarks as a “beautiful expression of sympathy,” particularly because the actress had taken the time to acknowledge the Guthrie family during what should have been a celebratory moment of her own.

Savannah said she was “so touched” by the gesture.

“Yeah, I was so touched to see her do that,” she said. “It was her moment of her triumph and for her to sit and just take a moment and think about our family.”

Savannah renews her plea for Nancy

Savannah then used the moment to make clear that she remains determined to keep her mother’s disappearance in the public eye.

“I never let a moment pass, if I get one, to talk about my mom and how much we miss her and love her,” she said, speaking about the pain felt by her siblings and their extended family.

“We’re in such pain. We need help,” Savannah continued, thanking Janney for remembering her family and giving her another opportunity to renew the public appeal for information.

She then delivered the most emotional part of the conversation, saying, “We just want our mom home, give her a proper goodbye. That’s all.”

Al Roker also addressed the moment, saying Janney had expressed what many people across America were feeling and thanking her for bringing attention to the Guthrie family.

Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance remains under investigation

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing after disappearing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on Feb. 1, 2026. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the case.

According to the FBI, Nancy was last seen at her residence in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills neighborhood on the evening of Jan. 31. Authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward, including anyone with relevant digital information such as photographs or doorbell-camera footage.

The FBI has also offered a reward for information that leads to Nancy’s recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of those involved in her disappearance.

The investigation has remained a painful part of Savannah’s life for months. After Nancy disappeared, Savannah stepped away from Today for several months to be with her family in Arizona while the investigation continued.

She returned to the morning show in April, acknowledging how difficult it was to come back to a program built around joy and lightness while her family was living through such a painful period. At the same time, she said she could not stay away because Today was also connected to her family.

Now, more than seven months after Nancy’s disappearance, Savannah continues to use every opportunity she has to keep her mother’s case in the public conversation.

And after Janney’s emotional acknowledgment at the Emmys, Savannah made clear that her family’s plea remains unchanged: they want Nancy home and are still asking anyone who may have information to help bring them closer to answers.
