Ann Droid cast as BBC sitcom welcomes unrecognisable Death in Paradise legend
Ann Droid has arrived on BBC One and fans cannot get enough of the “absolutely superb” sitcom.
First Look: Ann Droid – BBC
BBC Ann Droid is a “heartwarming” sitcom with stars from The Royle Family, Death in Paradise and Motherland. After losing her husband 18 months ago, widow Sue’s (played by Sue Johnston) son Michael (Paul Ready) moves out to fix his marriage but leaves his mum a departing gift.
To keep an eye on her health and to ensure she isn’t lonely, Sue is given a secondhand Ann Droid, an assistant robot called Linda that often causes more harm than good. As the BBC comedy is set to return every Friday night, here’s a closer look at the Ann Droid cast.

Sue – Sue Johnston

Sharp-witted pensioner Sue is initially resistant at the idea of being looked after by a carer robot but soon starts using it to her own rebellious advantages.
Actress Sue Johnston is famed for starring as Barbara Royle in BBC sitcom The Royle Family as well as Sheila Grant in soap opera Brookside.
Some of her other biggest roles have been in Coronation Street, Waking the Dead, and Downton Abbey.
Linda – Diane Morgan

Linda, the secondhand Ann Droid eldercare assistant, lacks social filters and is overly attentive from the get-go, causing problems for her owner Sue.
She is brought to life by actress and comedian Diane Morgan, famed for Motherland, After Life, Mandy and the Cunk franchise.
Michael – Paul Ready

While actor Paul Ready is better known nowadays for starring as Kevin Brady in Motherland, he also played Rob MacDonald in BBC’s Bodyguard and Harry Goodsir in AMC’s The Terror.
Ready stars as Michael, Sue’s son in Ann Droid, who gifts his mum with the robot in the hope that it will take care of her as he moves out to attempt to fix his marital issues.
Brian – Danny John-Jules

Death in Paradise fans may not recognise Dwayne Myers star Danny John-Jules who plays Brian in Ann Droid.
He is depicted as a quirky but chaotic taxi driver that may not be the most reliable.
Apart from Death in Paradise, John-Jules will be remembered for starring as Cat in the sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf and Barrington in the comic children’s series Maid Marian and Her Merry Men.
Eileen – Kathryn Hunter

Eileen is Sue’s best friend who is described as the “salt-of-the-earth”, with a blunt and refreshingly direct attitude.
She is portrayed by actress Kathryn Hunter who has starred in HBO’s Rome, Poor Things, Netflix’s Ladies First and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as Mrs Arabella Figg.
