While Chambers ultimately won fifth place during the Live Finals, he charmed audiences far and wide with his duet of “Blue Christmas” alongside his Coach, a certified king of Christmas, Bublé.
It was a jazzy reimagining that allowed both Bublé and Chambers to vocally shine with each melancholic verse, mesmerizing the crowd with their soothing serenade. Chambers and Bublé brought a charming hopefulness to the iconic ballad, especially as they closed out the song with a larger-than-life belt that had the crowd going wild.
Before the band even stopped playing, Bublé was geeking over Chamber’s electrifying performance, rooting him on as the audience roared in applause.
Fans were buzzing on social media over Chamber’s incredible performance with his Coach, commending the rising star for managing to make Presley’s iconic track his own. “It’s hard to hear this song without hearing the voice of Elvis, but Max is so different that he transcends the memory,” one fan commented. “That young man was SANGIN! Such a Star!”
What to know about “Blue Christmas”
Written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson, “Blue Christmas” was first recorded in 1948 by country artist Doye O’Dell, later made famous in 1957 by the King of Rock n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, as a standout on his holiday LP, Elvis’ Christmas Album. Presley’s reimagining of the holiday single led it to be deemed a holiday classic, thanks to Presley’s moody vocals and the dynamite backing vocals from the famous vocal quartet The Jordanaires.
